setting up for 2 new corns

ok, this is what I am proposing after reading numerous threads, please give me feedback. I am getting 2 hatchlings, if I were to get 2 x15 qt rubbermaids/sterilte containers, using paper towels as a substrate to start off with. Then using the zoomed UTH heater with rheostat attached to a ceramic tile and then place the two containers in a line so that a part of both of them are on the tile (therefore UTH). So you end up with a cold zone/hot zone--hotzone/cold zone. Do you think this will work? I had gotten a 20Gallon long to put them both in but think I should wait til they a little older and correctly sexed before I would even think of putting them together.

Feedback appreciated.
Thanks
anxiously awaiting hatchlings - Tina

I have used a set up like you're talking about for temp housing. The problem is that the UTH gets way to hot to use with a tub, especially one without a thicker substrate , like aspen or Repti-bark. These wood based products help defuse the heat more than the plastic tub wall with a paper towel. I would suggest using a heat pad versus the UTH. Another option is ordering a length of flexwatt. Either way you go, a temperature control device will be required for the safety of the animals.

I would also go with a human heat pad for plastic tubs. I have a few and they get to just the right temp, the zoo-med UTHs I have get 130+, if your thermostat failed with them...uh oh
Plus, the human heat pads are large enough that you can put one under 2 tubs, it works.

I've never used a rheostat with my human heating pads and have never had any problems:) Many have been using human heating pads for years with great results.

Human Heat pads.. Good!

I recently purchased a human heat pad from wal-mart for about $20 and I'm going to be using that for heating. I tested it for a week or soo to see how the temps were just incase if there was a problem. I kept it on all week and it stayed at a constant 29 C. I think they work great!! And I can also use this heating pad for when my hatchling becomes an adult b/c the size is of the pad is just right.

ps. I just kept the pad at the second notch or otherwise known as "medium" heat.

Kristy:) hope I was of some help
