Setup for baby boa

So I got my setup *done* for my new little one...I have paper towels down until I can get aspen chips, I don't have the UTH going yet as I wanted to get some heat tape to use instead of sticking it on the tank directly (read somewhere that was a thing to do just incase), and there is a bamboo hide under the plants at the back...what do you think? Too much? I like to provide lots of cover/hides for babies (and my adults). I know the humidity is super low, will work on fixing that before he arrives on Thursday. Thoughts? Suggestions?

It looks beautiful! I know nothing of the specifics of that species, but if it's like most, the more greenery/hides/clutter the better.

There is a sticky post on the red tail boa forum on modifying glass tanks for boas to help with the heat and humidity. You want 50-60% humidity so what you have now is really low. The decor looks great though!

Yeah it's pretty well discussed over there so I'd definitely check it out. I don't have a boa yet so I can't provide advice from personal experience. Good luck with the new baby! Can't wait to see some pics. :D

Not sure what Kind of Boa you are getting, but keep in mind, their requirements are different than corn snakes. If you are getting a Red Tail Boa, you'll want the warm side to stay around 92, and the cool side should not drop below 80. You show 82 degrees in your photo, that's ok for a corn snake, but a Boa should be much warmer.

You might even need to run 2 heat pads with separate thermostats to keep the cage heated correctly.

Also, Red Tails are fast growers, and you can expect a Baby to reach 4 feet or more the first year and hit 11 feet by 7 years. (Yes, I've had 2 red tail boas,) and that nice "Little Cage" setup you have in the picture will need to be replaced in no time. And if you are getting a large variety of Boa, such as a Red Tail, you should expect a cage about 6 feet long, by 4 feet wide, by at least 3 feet high. Boas are extremely strong and can and will find a way to pry the lid off the cage. You must make sure the lid is secured.

I am getting a hog island boa who was born in May of this year. This is a temporary enclosure until I can get ahold of a Boaphile viv. I don't have the heat pad hooked up and running, the 82 is ambient room temp of my bedroom currently. I also will be picking up supplies to make the same tank straps I have on my other tanks for this one.

Whatta cool temporary setup! if I were a hog island boa, I'd definitely want you as my keeper! That's a really cool pad! I'm sure you'll improvise as the sneaky one grows!

Am looking forward to the updates!!!

Thanks axis1 :) I like to try to make the vivs somewhat aesthetically pleasing, even if they don't really care lol. All of my snakes have fake plants and 2-3 hides each.

Udate...

So I can't catch a freaking break today...the DMV has me running in circles to get plates for my rig here in Montana...........I live in a house with mostly 2 prong outlets so I needed to get freaking adapters for that, and looking at the UTH it says to peel the white backing off to stick to the tank, which is exactly what I was trying not to do...is there a way I can avoid doing that and still use the foil tape to tape it to the bottom? I am so frustrated by today it's not even remotely funny ......I did get myself a new gaming mouse so hopefully that all goes well >.<

Aluminum foil tape which I refered to "heat tape" earlier...

I'm sorry to hear your day has been rough. I have the two prong outlets in my house too so I feel your pain there. Also in my bedroom one of the outlets is in the closet which is very odd, leaving only one other outlet. Very strange.

You can peel the white paper off and stick it to some aluminum foil, then use the aluminum tape to tape the UTH to the tank.

Forgive my ignorance, my brain absolutely refuses to cooperate with me today...I'm having trouble visualizing how this would work?

Yes, you have to affix the heat pad to aluminum foil first.

I have two heat pads (cool side only used in winter), but you get the idea. The smoother looking one is the cool side. I guess it does wrinkle with heat with time.

It doesn't matter which side of the foil is up. I've researched that. I just trim the edges carefully with scissors. Some wrap the foil around. I also just use duct tape and it holds fine as you can see. Nothing wrong with foil tape, but if you see a difference, that's it.

Ooooooooooook ok ok...so stick the UTH to the foil...for some reason I was thinking stick the white paper to the foil, then.......you get the idea -.- Thank you guys, you are lifesavers lol...
