Sexing Cruella Request

Now that I have your attention... lol

So, I'm looking to get an affirmative on my first snake's gender. I believe I posted long ago about this one, but when I bought my first snake, it didn't seem like we had a definitive sex. The place I bought him from told me as I was leaving he was pretty sure it was a male, but then changed stances on it seconds later catching himself saying that it had to be female based on what he had sold previously in the last days. So, right now Cruella is... Cruella. A female (hopefully). I want to get her sexed to be sure as I am fairly certain that late next year I may be able to breed her and Leoric for the first time resulting in many het babies that are all normal. Before I do so, I want to be sure.

I KNOW Leoric is a male because I received him from Mr. Mitchell Mulks who confirmed the sex.

I have been told about taking him to a vet that does this or taking him to a show, but I was wondering if there is anybody reputable enough on the board, in the area of Washington D.C. that may be able to meet up with me somewhere (I'm willing to drive a ways) to sex Cruella.

Please let me know if any of you have heard of anyone who is good at this or that you recommend. Thanks!

Also, back-up names like Cruella, but maleish just in case...

I came up with Creed for the band I used to worship (because of Tremonti, not Stapp), but then I think of the office when I say that.... not what I want, haha.

Maybe Checkers for the belly pattern, but that is so lame... any good ones???

Creed, yay! Maybe not for a snake name, but I loved the band.

I have no advice but I wanted to say that. :)

Are there any reptile stores near you? I've had my snakes probed at a reptile store and they only charged 5 dollars.

The user 4riscorn is a snake breeder in Virginia. I'm not sure how far he is from you, but maybe you could contact him?

4riscorn is not very active on this site, but maybe if you contact them through their website:
www.nevaehreptiles.com

They aren't exactly close, but I know they at least sometimes go to the Manassas show.

I don't know for sure of any GOOD reptile stores in the area that I'd trust to stick a probe in my snake. If done improperly, they can injure the snake. But I've heard rumors that there is a pretty good one down in Stafford or Fredericksburg, I just haven't checked it out. Sorry, no idea what the name is.

While I'm mentioning local resources, if you don't know already, Dr. Stahl of SEAVS in Fairfax is an excellent reptile vet.

Do they charge for sexing at Seavs or for appointment? Will they do walk-ins?

You'd have to call to ask them their pricing. The only time I've taken a snake there it was for an RI, so of course there was a regular office visit charge for that as well as for the meds.

I would second the recommendation for Dr Stahl. A very good friend of mine lives about twice as far from him as you are, and he takes his snakes to Dr Stahl if they need treatment. Dr Stahl has a very good reputation for being one of the very best reptile vets in the country.

Based on the kind of pet stores around me, I wouldn't necessarily trust someone at a pet store to really be knowing what to do.

I do not know how much he charges for sexing, you'll need to call. You will probably need an appointment, rather than a walk in.

You can ask if he can show you how to do it for future.

I like the band too, but I LOVED Creed in "The Office"! I think he was one of the best characters and had me almost wet myself at some of his scenes.

Sent an email to Stahl (SEAVs) to see if they do walk-ins or if I need an appointment, and how much they charge to probe snakes. I will make an appointment for next week once I get a follow-up and let you all know the results. Crossing my fingers for female verdict.

Apt. set for Friday during work (1130am EST). It's about to get real. Praying for female verdict, haha. Will let you folks know when I do.

Neat, I hope you get the results you're hoping for! If she's a male, you could always pick up a female of another morph that you like or one that matches the genes of your current snakes.

Yeah, my next purchase could very well revolve around this outcome so... currently my wish list reflects her checking out to be female... Friday seems so far away, haha.
