Shading Circle

I got a five weeks old baby corn and its eyes had turn grayish blue the last two days, it is very inactive now. How lang will it start to shade?
Can anyone tell me more about the shadding circle, I have got a book on corn snake but they did not tell much about this subject. I had read on the forum about the probleems during shadding and the method of solving it but can anyone tell me about how long is the circle? How often does it shade? etc etc.
I try to bath my baby corn but he/she does not like water and refuse to go into the bath. So I just spray the container and also spray water on him, does it help to soften the skin?
Many thanks

Richard

The shed cycle depends on your corn. They shed more often when they are younger (about once a month) but their growth slows down with age. If you are feeding regularly and your corn is growing at a healthy rate then he/she will shed roughly 1-2 times a month. Again this depends on individual corns. I have one a few weeks older than yours and she has shed twice this month.
As for bathing, if your corn doesn't like it then spraying the tank when he is due to shed will be fine.

The cycle usually goes like this:
1. snake goes dullish colour
2. eyes go opaque (cloudy) usually for about 2-3 days
3. eyes clear up
4. snake should shed from 4 days to a week after eyes have cleared.

Make sure the shed comes totally off. Sometimes a little bit can be left on the tip of their tail if their tanks aren't humid enough (if that happens soak the end of the tail and gently peel shed skin off). NEVER try to pull the shed off yourself, the snake will do it himself and then you'll have a nice momento to hang up on your wall! :D

hi i just had my first shed. and because of all the good advise from this forum, it was a perfect shed. i was a complete novice about shedding, and the only reason i knew she was about to shed was because the skin was peeling off her nose. she absolutely hates baths, but you gotta do what you gotta do. i bathed her in luke warm water for about 5 minutes, then i had a tupperware container full of moist moss, and i put her in there and closed the lid. there were air holes of course. before i knew it, i could start seeing the entire skin detatch from her and the whole thing slid off in one piece! so you could try that method, it seems to really work for me. :)

shading circle

thank you very much about the advice, for I just want to post another question about why the eyes were clear again. But anyway I know now how the circle is. It was so strange that the book I got on corn smake does not tell anything about this. Anyway I had order the corn snake maunel from USA, Hope it arrive real soon. Thanks anyway about the reply and advise.

Also, I think soaking and/or misting is probably not necessary in most homes. My cages stay around 35%-40% humidity and my corns have no problem shedding.

Nope, don't bathe him if he doesn't seem to like it, it will only stress him out. As for humidity, I would think that maybe misting your tank would be a good idea. I've been to Holland several times and it's not very humid (Pinata you're lucky...you have good weather in Florida!;) ). Judge for yourself. It doesn't hurt to mist the tank if you see that your snake is about to shed. :D

shading circle

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the advices. I just forget to posted my news. My corn have his first shading at home a few days ago. It goes all well, the whole skin came off in one beautiful piece with the eyes caps on, so I think I am doing the right thing. He is happy and well and going out of it's hide now and then even in the day time when I am at home during the weekend. So many thanks, I will try to take a picture of him these days to post on the net. He is just a normal corn but he is beautiful and very sweet and gentle and like to be handle. I am very lucky :D
I will get him a big christmas present, a bit tank this christmas.
HAPPY FORUM :p
