Shedding: Moist Hide or more humidity?

nycflip22

I want another Corn snake
Hi, my snake started shedding for the first time that I've had it. The color change was SOO gradual that I didnt notice until he shed about 4inches off..

I would assume that the shed wasn't in one complete piece because it wasn't humid enough so I left my water dish on top of the UTH, put a moist towel near the dish under the substrate and misted the tank where the UTH is.

1. Should I also mist the whole tank instead of just where the UTH is?

2. His favorite hide is big and isn't where the UTH is so it's on the colder side. I can't fit even half of that hide where the UTH is...How would I create a moist hide then?

Thanks.

When my snakes are going to shed(meaning there eyes go blue they clear up and their color looks brighter) I then put a moist hide in there i use a plastic container that you use for storing left over food, i guess a small rubbermaid, then i put a little bit of Aspen on the bottom and spray it so its nice and humid and moist at the same time and keep it on the warmer side so the humidity stays up.I also spray there cage when they are about to shed, i have always had a complete shed (knock on wood) so this has been working for me...good luck and i hope this helps a little :)

I think paper towels are common for moist hides, aren't they? They'd probably work really well. If you use shavings, make sure you check them frequently so they don't get mouldy.

I used moss in my girl's hide, and her shed was perfect. Now that she's not in shed anymore, I've just got some dry shavings in the bottom of her favourite hide... once she goes into blue again I'll put the moss back in there and keep it damp for her.

:) Good luck!

thanks guys. so i should moist another paper towel and put it under the hide even if the hide is not on the warmer part of the viv? just making sure.

it might be better to put it on the warmer side because it will keep the humidity up, or maybe put it inbetween the warm and cold side, i forgot to mension to keep and Eye on the aspen for mold, sorry about that, i always check the aspen and make sure its ok:) Good luck
