Shedding Skin?

So I have a baby anery corn snake and I was wondering why it was taking her so long to shed her skin. The skin around he head shed around 8 days go, but the skin on the rest of her body is still intact?

Is this normal?

It's not normal. A snake should, hopefully, shed it's skin in one whole piece. It sounds like your humidity is off. It should be around 40-50% and should be measured with a digital gauge, not the little plastic dial ones from a pet store.

I agree with Jessica. It is definitely not normal for that to happen. I personally like to shoot for about 60% humidity while they're in shed, but slightly lower than that is OK. I wouldn't go any lower than 50% humidity myself.

If the skin is still there even though it has already started shedding, I would recomend reading this so you know what to do with a bad shed.

To avoid it in the future, I would recommend making a humid hide (You can do a search here on the forums for it) or misting once a day while the snake is in it's shed cycle. If you use an aquarium with a screen lid, you can cover half of the lid with saran wrap (not too tightly, though) to increase the humidity.

Hi,

maybe you can give your snake a little lukewarm 10 minutes bath to help her get the old skin off (for this time, and for the future maybe provide a box with moist moss). The snake is shedding, because she has outgrown the old skin. It should come off, until problems occur.

Where might one find a digital humidity gauge if pet stores don't have them?

I would suggest going to Wal-Mart and getting an Acu-Rite digital thermometer and humidity gauge with a probe. They cost right around $10 each. You can put the probe on the hot side and put the unit on the cool side so you can get the temperatures of the hot side as well as ambient air temps, and the humidity of the viv. :)

Thanks so much for the advise everyone. The skin came off successfully after the bath, in one piece for the most part. I'm adjusting the conditions in the viv, I will look for a humidity gauge. Thanks again.
