Shedding

We have a 5-6 week old corn snake who seems to have settled well in new environment, when can you tell when shedding and what is their behaviour like.

He used to be under a rock all the time but since we go a vine he purchases himself between the top of the vine and the lid of his small tank which we have until he gets better.

your snake will probably tend to be more reclusive when he/she is coming up to shed. They go a dull color, and then become positively pale with the eyes taking on a bluish tinge. Then your snake will go back to looking normal again just to fool you, and he will shed a few days after that.
Note that if the shed is in lots of pieces then your humidity wasn't high enough and you'll know to increase it next time.

How do we control humidity all the temperature gauges are at the correct setting do we need additional equipment.

PS - Fond hello to anyone from Kansas have friends who live there have visited many times.

Hi - one way is to mist the cage lightly (you don't want to get the substrate actually wet as this can cause skin conditions.) Another method is to put a moist hide box into the cage at shedding times, and the snake will go into it when he wants to. I just use rubbermaid tubs, cut a snake sized hole in the lid, and fill them with moist sphagnum moss.
