Shedding?

So... Who is getting tired of my questions yet? :)

I am wondering if Samson is getting close to shedding. His eyes look fine but his color seems duller especially on the belly. Does it show more on their eyes first?

mine has only been through a shed once so far for me, but I noticed her colors darken before her eyes clouded. the eyes will probably cloud in a day or two, then a few days for that to clear, and then once clear up the humidity with a moist hide or whatnot and sometimes in the next week -2weeks you have a shed! Mine is much smaller than your but lets see.. I noticed the dullness on Wednesday, clouded eyes thur/fri, clear again sat and sun. Sunday night I put a paper towel that ws just sprinkled with water under her warm hide. And Monday morning I had a nice clean shed!

I don't know about noticing the eyes change - because I have an albino.

When was the last time he shed? The first clue that my snake is getting close to a shed (before the obvious clue of clouding over) is behavioral changes. She tends to spend more time hiding.

Oh yeah, and this. mine wouldn't come out of her hide for like 3-4 days before she started clouding.

From Samson's belly pattern, it looks like it to me in the picture. If he's been hiding a lot that's a huge sign, too; as everyone has mentioned. Mine wants total privacy leading up to shed.

Well Samson tends to hide often. I've only had him for three weeks. I got him from someone I know that needed to get rid of him. So I'm not sure when he last shed. But he, only in the past week, has been daring to venture out in the evenings. Other than that he hides. I have him in the living roo, and I don't think he is used to being out in busy areas. He was in a kids room that never paid attention to him. But when I took him out last night he seemed super skiddish and I looked at him this morning for a second and his eyes look a bit different like maybe getting foggy.

OK Well it sounds like he may be going into a shed then. Since you have only had him for three weeks, I assume you haven't had a shed with him yet.

Do you have a water dish in his tank that is big enough for him to soak in? Some snakes like to do that to help themselves shed.

Keep us updated and if he does shed - let us know how he did.

Good luck!

Thank you! I think he can fit into his dish, if not I'll get a bigger one in there. I'm very excited!!

Both of my boys are "Albino" but their morphs and coloring are completely opposite.... I am able to see, if I happen to catch it that day, when their eyes cloud over. My Amel's eyes go dark blue from red and my Opal's eyes go from bright pink to milky whitish/blue.... If their color dulls it's usually the right indicator they are getting ready for a shed soon.
Xen's explanation is pretty on point, that's about how it works. When they are showing signs of shedding do not handle them, they need to be left alone =)

Most people say don't feed because they wouldn't in the wild. And many will refuse food. I've only been through one shed, and frankly, she seemed hungry so I offered her a pinkie and she gobbled it up. (this was on the second day after her eyes cleared again). She ate happily, went back to her warm hut (this is when I added the damp towel) and next morning, there was a shed!

Okay!! I'll play it by ear. Thank you. I know I ask tons of questions I just want to get it right. I appreciate all the help

I assume no feeding either until the shedding is complete?

That is correct.
Only because they can possibly regurge or get too stressed during sheds.
My Amel will eat during his shed, but my Opal refuses meals.
It's just better to be safe then sorry with their health.

Okay. I'll just let him be. I checked earlier and he seems very much cloudy all over and his eyes. Almost acted like he couldn't really see me either.

Yes they shed their eye caps, too, so during that time they can't really see well, and it scares them.
That's why it's best to leave them be so they don't stress or feel threatened by a "Predator" they can't see :p

So I just checked on Samson and his eyes are very cloudy but the rest of his body looks almost normal. So I just added some moist paper towels under his hide. Here is hoping I see a shed in a day or so! I'm very excited. I feel like I've been doing a good job if he's growing! Haha. I've even said a few times since I got him that he's gotten larger. Getting some meat on his body. Yay!!
You'd think I was some giddy teeny girl and not a 31 year old woman.

We finally had a shed last night! Took longer than I expected. Looks like a perfect shed.
