Should I feed double pinkies?

Spork

My 07 amel is has eaten a pinkie yesterday and completely digested it in about 17 hours and went to the bathroom. My question is should I move on to feeding him double pinks? This is about my fourth feeding since I've had him.

I would also like to note that I have no way of weighing my snake to see if he is 20 grams.

Hi,

How often are you feeding him? I feed mine size every 5-6days.

If he's digesting a pink (you didn't mention what size and how often you feed) THAT quickly, I would definitely bump him up onto two pinks.

If you are a bit nervous of feeding him two the first time, try giving him two really small ones to begin with, if he handles those fine, bump him up to bigger pinks. :)

Get a cheap gram scale, it's really worth it and probably one of the best purchases I have made to help with properly feeding my snakes.

My keepers and any new hatchlings I buy, get offered double pinks straight off. I do compare them to the snake though, and wouldn't offer them anything too big, (as in, the circumference is no larger than 1 1/2 times as round as the snake). If they take them, great, if not, I have others always up for a free meal... :D

I feed him ever 4-5 days, he is around 14-16inches. I will definitely go out and purchase a gram scale asap.

Just make sure it goes to at least 1 kg and measures in 1 gram increments.

There are some really cheap ones on Ebay.

I use a USB scale bought on clearance from Radio Shack for $7.

shouldn't a 9+ month old snake be eating something bigger than pinkies?

maybe! Our first is a small 06 female that is on large pinkies
Rodentpro has small and large pinkies
I bought 100 and will use them until Gone. Our second 06 femals is much larger and would probably be on the next size but in that we have a bunch of large pinkies still and she eats them with no problem whats the difference?

if you compare rodentpro's analysis, fuzzies are more nutritious gram-for-gram, which may explain why a lot of snakes suddenly start growing faster after they are changed to fuzzies

fuzzies vss pinkies...

"if you compare rodentpro's analysis, fuzzies are more nutritious gram-for-gram, which may explain why a lot of snakes suddenly start growing faster after they are changed to fuzzies"

I found this interesting because I have moved my 12 week old babies recently to fuzzies from large pinks. I offer them 2 every 4 days on average and 4 of the 5 of them are eating two at a shot. My 8 week old hatchlings are on 2 per feeding and got bumped up at 6 weeks when they started acting really hungry the day after they ate. My yearlings are getting 2 hoppers every 4 days as well now for the same reason. My snake tubs stay 80-84 w/out a lot of external heat this time of year. I often wonder if that has a lot to do with how much they eat and process.
Silly me I just feed when they act hungry and so far it seems to be working.

I had a four week old corn hatchling eat FOUR pinks, they're fed on a weekly basis. He only got extra because other babies refused their feeds
