I know i just got it but i got a corn snake this morning and its so scared of getting touched or moving things. Is this normal for when there new to their enclosures? Will he/she change soon? My other corn didnt act like this.
Thanks,
Josh

Some snakes are pretty shy. I would read the thread "Unhiding a hider". They've got some pretty good tips for making your snake a bit more sociable. However, I'd give it a week to settle in before you start handling it too much.

*cough* shameless plug *cough* ;)

Yeah, I've had some great success with that method. Right now, he's sleeping under a plant, OUT IN THE OPEN! Amazing. I never thought I'd see the day.

All corns are different though. Rippit's "Indy" is so active she's almost annoyed by the noise her snake makes at night, climbing then falling. lol *THUD* So cute. Mine just sleeps... all... the... time. Even in my hand, he sleeps!

awwwwwww...

that's so cute! i wish my hatchling would sleep in my hand...then i wouldn't have to worry about the little squirt falling into the couch, hehehe. do you sing him lullabies, too? :crazy02:

Yeah, and Indy is still at it - still active as ever and still a pain in the @ss when he doesn't want to eat!

BTW Spirit, I'm a...wait...let me check again...yep! I'm still a HE lol!

Everybody is right about the handling to make it calmer, eventually. HOWEVER, put the snake down and leave it for three days. This will help your new friend adjust to its new home. Just make sure it has water and leave it be, no handling, no food, and if avoidable, no loud noises.

After the settling in period, then begin to slowly acustom the beastie to being handled. Then, you can try the "Spirit Method" of bringing a snake out of its hides.

Hope this helps.

Rippit: D-OH! Oh, how embarrasing. Then again, people always mistake me for a gay male, so.... Now I'm curious what you look like... I dont know why. haha (and thanks for double checking LOL)

INTO the hide? Hmm... remove all things climbable and put in more hides? That would make for one very unhappy Indy, I would think... lol! Yeah, don't do that. ;)

Flynging: I just noticed your sig. Freya's been another online name of mine for YEARS!

It's cute when he sleeps in my hand, but it can be a little concerning. I can pick him up in a curled position, and he WILL NOT MOVE for about 30 minutes. Everytime I make him uncurl though, he suddenly wakes up. He becomes active and flicks his tongue and whatnot (healthy snakey movements), but it is sometimes nice to just let him sleep in my hand. I think it's sweet that he trusts me enough to crash. ;)

Well, at least it's in a chat forum where there are no pictures of us or anything. Now if people were mistaking us for gay males in real life, THEN we might want to re-think some things.

Not that there's anything wrong with that... :grin01:

Spirit - I'm so ugly that in my family album, my parents only kept the negatives...

I dunno... are you a woman?

Rippit: In person I get gay man trapped in a lesbian's body. Whatever that means. :eek1:

Well, basic arithmetic says that a negative of a negative is a positive, so I think what they're saying is...you're straight.

Of course, that's just my opinion - and I'm deranged :crazy02:

Well, if ya wanna get technical, there is a thread with pictures of the people and not the snakes floating around here somewhere... ;)

I think it's because of my envy of gay men. I sometimes wish I was one... some of those guys are HOT, TONS of fun, and make excellent friends. lol

I dragged a very straight male friend of mine to a gay bar some years ago. I dragged him in there kicking and screaming. I dragged him out the same way. I think I ruined him for life... buddy had the time of his life.

And the Pride Parade? Same thing. There's really no other large gathering of people where you'll see just about every race in both sexes, aged from teens to grannies, just filled with acceptance and love for all. Not to mention buttless leather chaps. Definitely one of my favorite events.

All that aside, the fact that people ONLINE mistake me for a gay male is just pure irony.
