sick gerbil, HELP

K one of my male gerbils seamed alittle small didn't grow much as i baught him as a juvinal and the last week hes seam to get smaller or lose weight, so i took a look at thim today and he had something like a sore or a scab on his belly it was kinda brown/yellow and the fur around and below it were staind yellow, saw this thismorning today when i got home from work he was prety docile and slow i seperated him and after a bit decided to euthenize him i'd bump the box he was in and he'd fall down, the pic shows the size a but dosn't show the sore very well but i'm hoping that someone can tell me what it was and if its contagious or not?

My guess is that he was weak to begin with and was attacked by another gerbil and infection killed him.

The yellow stain you mentioned is probably due to pus from the infected wound.
