heya , just recently my corn has started sitting in her water for a min or 2 before curling up and sleepin for the night .. is this normal or is there sumit wrong ?? (she is currently being treated for mites and i thought it might have sumthing to do with that )

thank you :)

Snakes will sit in their water bowl for a variety of reasons. Mites is on reason. The mites irritate the snake and the mites drown in the water. The will also soak when they are getting ready to shed. Sometimes if you do provide good hiding places for the snake they will sit in the water bowl trying to hide. In any case, it is not a problem unless they spend all day they or if it is an indication of a problem that you need to solve.

she got mites while stayin at a pet shop while i was away -.- , and there nearly gone cos im only finding one or 2 on her these days and she shed recently ....

Well I'd say there's your problem. Your snake has mites. The shed was also likely in response to the mites. You need to treat the snake to get rid of them. You also have to treat the enclosure otherwise they will just keep coming back. Mites can lead to other issues if not treated.

Also forgot to mention, just because you are only seeing one or two doesn't mean that there aren't many more buried underneath the snake's scales that you can't see.

i know that too but usuallly when i put the treatment on after a lil while id be able to see um all but i did know theres prob more under the scales but id say there dyin down because shes not as iritated as she was at first and she more or less back to her normal self :) thank u tho :)

awk lol forgot sumthin again >< i plan on treating her with the "mite off" for a lil while after i think there gone is that the right thing to do?

sorry double post again ><

In my experience, there are times when snakes just enjoy being in water. The first time I saw a corn submerge herself and stay there, really surprised me because I had read that they only needed water for drinking and didn't like to get wet!!!

However, the snakes themselves have done a great job of educating me differently as the below pic will show!!!

Shy ALSO quickly convinced me that she needed a bigger swimming pool, which she frequently enjoys taking a dive in!

Mine only ever go in the water when it gets too hot (not a regular occurrence here in the UK!).

I think in your case the mites are your most likely cause, but it's also worth checking the temperature range in the tank just to make sure it's not over-heating.

the mites are alll gone :D and i she still sits in her watter for a lil bit before she curls up to sleep so i guess she jus likes a bath before bed haha :)
