Size tank?

Hi new here, 1st post:wavey:, I will be getting a corn snake in the next few weeks and i've been going through a checklist on everything to get. I've been reading on this forum and have already gathered lots of information. As for tank size, I was going to buy a 20 gallon because i've heard they are sufficient for an adult corn. The corn I will be getting will be very young and I was wondering if the tank being big would stress him out or would he be happy? Or should I just buy a smaller tank for the first year or so of his life? any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

A 20 long is the minimum for an adult corn. As long as there are sufficient hiding places (hides, vines, ground cover, etc) a hatchling should be fine in a 20L. One of the signs of stress is a snake not eating, so if you have feeding issues, you might want to look into getting a smaller Sterilite tub until he grows a little. Don't forget the UTH and thermostat to regulate the temps for the little guy.

PS. Welcome to the site and congrats on your new little friend!

ITs extremely important

I have 2 20gallon long tanks for my 2 snakes, the sice can stress them but if they plenty of cover they are more than fine here's a pic of my setups

20g should be fine for a hatchling, but mak sure it's absolutely escape-proof (you wouldn't believe the small gaps they can squeeze through) and put loads of hides in to make it feel secure. They don't have to be flash - the carboard tubes from kitchen paper cut in half lengthwise are great.

Be prepared to upgrade your tank size when your snake becomes an adult.
I have my full grown corn in a 55g and she uses every inch
