Skin and digesting questions

Just to let you know that my snake is doing good.
I had him for 2-3 weeks now, he ate twice. is active and pretty.
He is about 2 feet long, believed to be 2 years old.( i could be wrong on this one)

I have a question about digestion, maybe someone can help. After i feed him he is hiding/digesting for 3-5 days not 48 hours as I believe they should. He poops after 5 or 6 days. He mostly stayes on the cool side. Goes to the warm one when he is in the active stage.

Also because he digest for so long, we dont get to handle him too often because it is almost time for the next feeding already. :shrugs:

How often should I feed him? I think that he is rather skiny, he was not fed for a month before I got him. I can see his spine a little bit. i want to fatten him up. Should I move to the bigger mouse? He used to eat one size bigger for 3 feedings before I got him but they looked so big I got 3 mice that were one size smaller as I was just a begginer and did not want to stress him out in his new enviro.

When should he change his skin?

thanks

just wanted to add that he is skinny ( spine showing a bit) anly for the first 5 inches or so the middle of the body is round

As for the snake choosing the cool side.... that is up to the side to determine. It will do what it wants to do.
You can try feeding you snake every seven days and not handle him for 48 hours after feeding. This helps to reduce stress and regurges.

The size of mouse to feed..... that can go two ways, first is the rule of thumb of feeding your snake an food item that is only 1 1/2 time the snake greatest girth ( a little bigger than the snake). Also there is Munson feeding plan. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50106
Either way is good.

You should only feed the snake a ONE proper size food item per feeding day.
You only double up when you are moving up to the next size.

Shedding happen around once a month but that extends as the get older.

Good Luck.
