Skin eating

will corn snakes eat their skin post shed? I know that some snakes will, and i believe my snake just shed (his eyes are suddenly not cloudy) but i dont see any skin in the tank.

No, they don't.

-The snake goes blue.
-The snake clears up.
-Day or two later, snake sheds.

So look for a skin very soon ;)

really? i was always under the impression that the eyes got more and more cloudy and then boom, they shed. this is the 2nd time he would be shedding, and last time his eyes were cloudy right up until, then i came home from work and there was a shed wrapped around a branch.

My ball python just shed. Her eyes cleared up and it took up to a week for the shed to come off.
Does your corn look bright or dull? If it still looks dull, it may not have shed yet.

By the way, my aneloes eat their shed. It is gross.

It's normal. It usually takes a day or so after they clear up for them to shed. Also, look under things, and check it's not stuck to them. My girl's first shed was wrapped round the inside of her water bowl... :grin01:

Two of my snakes are about 3 ft so they're in ecdysis for abou 5 to 7 days. Ive them for a while now so i can tell when there about to shed. Your snake will probably shed in the next 2 days.

Hmm i wish they ate there shed.. less cleaning :p my beardie eats his.. its ammusing to watch accualy! :bang:

Actually some cornsnakes eat thier own sheds. Or at least parts of them. My corn which I've had for 2 years now occasionally eats pieces of his shed, large pieces. And I am sure they are not left on him. Once when He shed I found the 1st half of his shed on his branch and the second half was missing. I looked him over very carefully to see if the 2nd half had gotten stuck on him but it was GONE. I even cleaned his cage that day, expecting to find it in the substrate. But it was nowhere to be found, so he ate it. I dont have a clue to why they do this. . . but he has done this twice. Most of the time he leaves it for me. But it Does happen. . .

Im guessing in your case however the snake just hasn't shed yet. :)

Yep, a corn will lose the dullness and cloudy eyes a couple of days before they shed. When the snake first goes into blue what is happening is that the top skin layer is seperating from the bottom, hence the clouded eyes and dull look. Before they actually shed a lubricating liquid fills the gap between the 2 skin layers in order to ease the shedding process. It is this liquid that causes the dullness and cloudy eyes to clear up prior to shedding.

naa, I take sheds to my mother in laws house and leave them where she won't notice right away :santa: (she's a snake lover)

MY leopard geckos eat their shed. Mine don't like being watched when they do it so its humorous to watch them and then walk up to the cage. They just kind of freeze like a dog would if you walked in on a dog about to tip over the trash can again.
