Skinny Girl Finally Shed!

I bought an extremely thin female snow on May 5 and I've been feeding her every 5-7 days to try to get her to plump up. Mission accomplished! She weighed 128 when I got her, but now she's up to 189 and she shed last night! She finally got too big for her old skin! Woohooooo!!! :crazy02:

I need to take some photos of her new and improved physique. She's quite the pretty little lady now, and she's puppy dog tame. :) She's also a voracious eater, and it irritates me that her previous owner didn't have her on a better growth plan.

Now, for a question...should I keep up the intense feeding schedule or level her out a bit? I *believe* she's an early '05, but I don't know for sure. All I know is that she was grossly underweight two months ago and now she looks almost normal.

Here are the "Before" pics. She looked awful back then!

If she's back to a normal weight, I would just feed like you would any other snake. So probably every 7-10 days.

Also, she has a lot of pink, do you know if there's any chance that she could be a coral snow? A great looking snake either way!

 Congrats on the rescue! Probably time to start stretching out the feedings to 8, 9, then 10 days apart so she doesn't get 'squishy' now, but you've got to show the update photos now!

I would feed her every week... Just because thats what I feed all my adult females regardless... She looks like an 05 size, however shes got quite a big head. I wouldn't be surprised if she were 3 years old. Id say for her size, 300 grams would be an ideal weight.

I think I'm going to try to get her up to 200 before I slow down. Do you think that's reasonable? I'd like to get her up to 300 by this time next year, if not earlier. Not necessarily for breeding purposes, but because I think that's where she should be.

I got her and two other snakes from a guy in Plano (will PM you the name). This is the only one that survived. The other two were starved to death and I couldn't help them. He was a pretty shady guy and I got ripped off in a big way. BUT...she is beautiful and tame, so I guess I didn't too bad. Tore the sleazy breeder a new one though. That felt nice. :grin01:

I haven't a clue about her genetics. I did think she seemed a bit pink for a snow, but I have no idea about the coral thing. How would I test that out?

By breeding her to a known carrier of hypo you can prove out of she carries it.

Hypo...ah...ok, I can try that. :)

I have a normal male that is het for amel/lavender/motley, and I will probably breed her with him as well. I'm sure she's het for lots of random weird stuff. The breeder was an absolute nut. :crazy02:

Since hypo and motley are common hets, it would be nice to breed her to that male. You could possibly get a nice mix of amel mots etc...

BUT if shes not carrying anything, which is possible, then you would be stuck with a load of normal/amel corns with multi possible hets. That would be a bit crap.

Thanks for the heads up this "breeder". I'm sorry that you had such a crappy experience. You know, I know a better breeder who produces very nice and healthy animals in Lewisville... ;) :grin01:

But seriously, enough with the shameless plug. I'm with Tula; I'd switch to a more normal schedule. Shouldn't be a problem to get her up to 300 grams; especially if she's putting on weight that fast.

As for proving her out, if you want to try and prove her out for hypo, I'll have a couple of animals homo hypo with anery and amel in the mix if you wanted to do a breeding loan of some sort.

All right, I can do a 7-day schedule. She gains weight really easily.

I'll be on the lookout for those hets. I think the breeding loan sounds like a good idea. I guess we'll see about that next year. She sure is a pretty girl.

I knew better than to trust that breeder...I breed animals myself...oh well, moment of weakness. :)

I'll try to post some "After" photos this weekend.
