The Plastic American
Well when I got my little amel (about a year and a half ago). One of my friends little brothers got a corn too from the same guy. For all I know they were from the same clutch. I remember them being about the exact same size. Well in December his snake (Houdini) escaped for what seemed like the last time... But a week ago, he turned back up.

So I'm at my friends house today and I asked to see the snake since he turned up and we go to his brothers room and first thing I noticed is that he's got a heat lamp on on top of the cage. I turned it off and took the screen off and the inside of the tank is more than warm feeling so I'm not surprised when little Houdini strikes. Little guy actually drew a couple drops of blood I couldn't believe it. But I proceeded to take him out because of the temp I was sure he needed to chill out. Then after he calmed a bit I noticed his eyes were definitely blue so we'll see how long it takes him to shed.

Anyways I asked if I could take him and he said yes. He is literally pencil thin. I'm going to let him settle for a day and Tuesday I'm going to try and feed him a pink. Weighed him when I got home and he is at a measly 54g. I'm renaming him Solomon Grundy.

He looks a bit on the thin side but not at-death's-door thin. I'm sure once you get him set up properly and he settles in, he'll be a nice snake.

That's what I thought too. My biggest concern was the temperature. There was no thermometer to really check. He's still really short too. I'd say just a couple inches over a foot but I haven't measured yet.

Get him set up with proper temps and such, give him time to settle in, and then follow feeding as you would with your other snake, based on the appropriate size of prey for his size.

I would not try to put weight on him too fast, because if his system is not used to adequate food, throwing heavy feeding at him will be a shock to his system.

One of the biggest things I see with snakes that are too small for their age, is generally, the owner never moved up in size, or wasn't moving up in size nearly as often as they should be (based on growth), so the animal stays pretty small.

He doesn't appear to be triangulated (malnourished), so he should be fine once you get him onto a regular feeding schedule.

I agree, he just needs some TLC and he should do fine.

Thank you for rescuing him, you have a higher place in snake heaven for it!

He doesn't look terribly thin. Not going to hurt him to settle in for more than a day, I'd do a minimum of 4 days as he wasn't shipped and then if he has shed go ahead and feed, I'd wait until after the shed though no reason to risk any regurges.

I've got a small one now for her age, she was getting feed 1 pinky a week so she never really gained any weight after hatching she has only been maintaining the same weight for 5 months.

I think he actually looks pretty good.. But I did just wake up and I am on my phone, maybe I'm just not seeing the skinny?

Well I'm guessing it's been at least over a month since he ate and could be much longer. The snake I got about the same time is close to 150g so like three times his weight. He is only about as thick as a pencil.
