sleeping?

I heard snakes sleep for 8-10 hours a day. I have no problem believing that. But how do you know? How do you know if a snake is sitting still because he is scared to death, just relaxing, sleeping? I dont want to wake her up to handle her and piss her off.

I never know, just move slowly so they get a whiff of your scent and slowly pick them up. Only been bitten a couple of times, usually when I had been ill and had to put off feeding a couple days longer than usual.

If your going to give human emotions to a snake then the best way of telling its asleep is when its eyes are closed and its snoring. Scared to death look is obvious. Relaxed look will be when its on its back have a cigarette and a beer. Everyone knows what they look like when they are pissed off! Other then that it's almost impossible to tell when they are sleeping or awake.

I just assume mine are asleep when they are in their hides all curled up. I assume they wake up when they stick their heads out and stay like that for an hour or more before deciding to come out.

I can tell when Sienna is scared because she actually cowers. Seriously. She's still in the shy phase. She backs away from my hand. I try to only pick her up and handle her when it's her normal activity cycle (not during the day when I think she's sleeping).

The part I hate is when they get done mating and I have to put a cigarette in the male's mouth and let him smoke that nasty thing.
