Hello all,
I am new to the corn snake (or any reptile) world! I recently bought my first snake off another relatively new snake owner about mid-june. For those of you who remember, I made a post about how my snake had some odd wrinkly discolored scales on a small patch on this back, I didn't notice it when I picked him up because he was mid shed when I got him. (http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143664) The patch was checked and just seems like an old injury probably caused a minor burn. ANYWAYS his last shed cycle lasted about a week or longer, in which he turned from vibrant orange to completely dull pink, and his eyes clouded over and looked blue for a few days. It was a bad shed, very incomplete and I had to let him soak for a while to get all the skin off. Fast forward to 3 days ago, I took Houston out of his tank to feed him and I noticed his eyes didn't look as clear as they normally do and his color looked just a bit dull but I didn't think much of it because its wasn't extreme but the thought of a shed did occur to me. I should've realized when he wasn't striking and that I basically had to put the mouse on his face before he gently grabbed it that he probably couldn't see too well. Last night before I went to bed, I saw Houston coiled up in his mailing tube hide and he looked normal as ever. Checked him this morning before work at 8 am and he was burrowed out of sight. When I got home from work at about 4pm he was peering out the glass from under the aspen and there are large pieces of shed all over tank!! Is it normal for snakes to go through different shed cycles like that? Or is this one better compared to last time because he's in a better condition? I've changed things like temperature and humidity to better suit him, I don't think the girl I got him from was ready for this type of pet because she really couldn't tell me much before I picked him up. I've worked hard to do a lot of research to keep my corny happy and healthy as he can be. Two other things that may be related, I've increased him from medium to large adult mice starting 2 feeds ago and I also take him outside about once or twice a week so he can stretch out and get exercise in a controlled environment. Any ideas or advice are appreciated!
