Snake Bedding

My husband and I are new snake owners and are having a bit of an argument. I say we should have the Repti-Bark and that the Aspen is too easy for the snake to uncover. He says that the Repti-Bark is too dusty. Do any of you have a suggestions?

If its only a young snake I just use paper towel. It is cheap, hygenic and easy to change plus there is no chance of the snake accidently ingesting any of the substrate.

I use reptile Bark for most of my snakes. I think its better than Aspin because aspin is more likely to get trapped in the snakes mouth and large bit are reptile bark isn't.
But if the snakes in younger than a yearling, I would use papper towels.

I think both are fine choices. I personally use aspen, primarily because it is so much cheaper than reptibark. Petsmart has 5 cu ft packages of aspen for $15, and 24 qt reptibark for $16. 24 qts is less than one cubic foot - you get 5x the aspen for less $$.

Oh yeah - and what do you mean by "too easy for the snake to uncover"?

I can't comment on the dust issue because I've never used reptibark. I did try some coconut brick bedding, and that was very dusty.

I found reptibark to be too dusty so I switched to aspen. I think I used reptibark for about two days.
The aspen allows the snakes to burrow underneath which actually adds another hide to their habitat.
If the snakes sloshed water onto the reptibark it kind of got muddy and it wasn't as easy to clean. With the aspen it is easier to spot fecal matter and clean.
