About how long does it take for the snakes colors to really come out? For a butter corn for instance. Cuz how they are a brownish color when little......how long does it take for the yellow to really come out and pop?
Well, that's a pretty difficult question to answer. It really depends on so many factors, including whose lines they are and what your husbandry practices are. For instance, a yearling snake kept by you may be fed more often than mine and kept at a bit higher temperatures, this means by the age of one year yours might be a good 2/3 bigger than mine, thus yours would likely have better colour.
Last year I dealt with butters and butter motley from four different sources. Some were fairly yellow even though they had only had one shed, others were so pale they almost looked snow. There were two that I really thought were just amel. Well, I ended up keeping from 3 of the four sources and now a year later, well they are ALL nice. The yellows are much closer together and fairly bright.
In summary though I truly feel that they would be at their best about 2-3 years old.
Now you mention yours has brown shades? That seems strange to me. Is it just in the saddle areas? I'd love to see a picture
