Snake Escape...Bad Ending

When I went to feed the snakes yesterday I realized I forgot to put a couple clips on my milk snakes bin and he escaped. I looked around for him but no luck finding him. Tonight I was sitting in the kitchen and heard a weird noise in the family room I went down to check and there was my milk snake, stuck in the bars of my hamsters cage. He ate my hamster! I know it was only natural for him but I am really upset. I loved that little hamster and I feel bad cause it's my fault for not remembering to put his clips back on and when he went missing I should have thought to find a safe place for the hamster but I didn't think he could get through the bars.

RIP poor little hamster

I am sorry for your loss. It is very sad and I know you feel horrible. BUt accidents like this happen.. I feel sad for you cause I keep putting myself in your shoes and I know I would feel the same way.. It was an accident.. :(

One time our female Hog Island boa, who was a yearling at the time, managed to get through a gap in the AP cage she was in-- the hole where the light cord passes through. She made it all the way over to our "rodent racks," which is a 10' journey, by climbing through the ceiling rafters and then back down. Luckily I was cleaning the rodents and caught her before she could cause trouble.

Sorry for your loss!

I know it is bad to lose a pet, but just looking for the silver lining is that you found one.

Sorry about your lost hamster. RIP.

I am very sorry for your loss, but as others have said, it was an accident. I would feel the same way though. But at least you found your snake :)

oh no that's AWFUL to hear! sorry about your hamster :(

i'm just curious though, was it a very large milksnake, and a very small hamster? my boyfriend fed his biggest corn (about 800grams) a hamster once (idiot!) and it regurged it back up. i hope that doesn't happen with your milky!

Thanks everyone, it's definitely a learning lesson to go back and check the clips are on.

He was a small hamster, he was a tiny little Robo hamster. I don't think he will regurge the hamster was about the same size as the mice I feed him.

Katie, I am so sorry. I know you love everything under your care. My heart is breaking for you......poor lil guy......

wow Sorry to hear this. You need a bigger house!! hehe
But really... sorry 'bout your hamster.

Lol yea I would love a bigger house. We have a 2 story house and the snakes are upstairs with the door shut and the hamster was downstairs, so the snake some how found a way out of the room and down the stairs with out me or the 2 cats finding him.

Thanks Beth, I just keep thinking about my poor little guy running in his wheel and then getting eaten.

I guess that's the risk you take when you keep rodents and snakes. It will just make me double check that everyone is secure and if they get out I'll know to find a safe place for the rodents.
