Snake Escape..

I realize that life gets in the way sometimes, but that shouldn't be an excuse for not taking care of your snake. Everyone has a minute. The only time you don't is when you are not home. Sorry to come down hard, but I have heard this a lot from people who have had their emaciated dog or cat taken away from them, because they had neglected them. "I didn't have time for them." is a common excuse! Really?? Did you have time to shower, smoke a cigarette, watch the tube, send a text message, chat on the phone, or poop? What about water? Did you have time for that? I know you have other responsibilities, but a pet is a major one and if you can't handle it, find or hire a temporary caretaker. I don't deal in excuses, when it comes to pets. I have heard too many!

Now that I have gotten my little chastise out of the way. It sounds like you have set up everything you can to find the little snake. I recently lost a snake so I can relate. My circumstances were completely different, but I can completely understand, what you are feeling. Set up the traps. Try to set up tape traps, even thought you have other pets that may get caught up in them. You never know, you could catch the right one. Try running them behind the couch or dresser where your other pets can't get at them. Check in small warm spaces. Try putting a feeder pinkie in the bottle trap.

Some time's these little guys turn up a while later. When you least expect it. So don't give up hope.

Good Luck,

Wayne

"Last I saw him in his cage was nearly month ago,"

Do you clean it's enclosure? Give it water? If this is the best care you can offer it, find a different hobby.

So don't assume, that I don't know what I'm doing, I'm not the average teenager who don't know anything and is ignorant, try again.

No one is assuming. Read your post. That is what you gave us. Look, I'm not here to tell you how to fix the problem, just that there is one. You said you hadn't seen the animal is a month. I have 300 snakes and I can tell you I've seen everyone of them this weekend.

Okay, now I'm assuming with 300 snakes, you use newspaper/papertowel? Correct? WOW, Its hard to peer under their hide as you drop in water, not quite the same as having to dig through a heck of a lot of carefresh, that is the same color as your snakes. I'm sure you have a full time job too correct? Now try going to school part time, have a full-time job, go to college at night and come home for the first time since 5 am at 11pm, only to have to do homework and take care of many other different animals, which require more time than any snake. Change a bit for ya? Get it now? Doubt it, I don't have time to dig around aimlessly each week looking, only to stress him out, when I KNOW that he was healthy and doing fine. I do however make time every Saturday to do the water, feeding and cleaning.

I won't be coming back on this site. Again, have a great day.

You know that it's healthy and doing fine....but you have no idea where it is? Sounds like you're on top of it. If you're pets are too much for you to handle you shouldn't have them. Stop making excuses. It is or it isn't. You're talking out both sides of your mouth. If I had more on my plate than I could manage to do well, I would start setting some priorities. Good luck getting your big-boy/girl work done and keeping your animals alive.

The whole situation here is unfortunate, and I hope that you do stop in and see this, Jenn. Its really hard for people to give advice on a situation like this without being a little critical. You did very few things wrong, but there are some very die-hard snake keepers here who have a different idea of the level of care they think is appropriate.

We have all been there, that time in our life when we wish the days had twice as many hours. Its hard to manage our time, and the last thing we want to do is to give up/give away our pets.

I'm certain nobody wants you to leave, or to take things personally, they just want to council so that we can all use this site to be better caretakers for our little legless friends.

If you do come back and check this out, my 2 cents is that you are doing the right thing, and keep doing it. Good luck finding your hondo, they are very attractive snakes.
