snake is climbing the walls: escape attempt or just being a goof?

I've had Ophelia since the end of August. She just went through a rather difficult shed today (it only came off partially by itself, and I had to give her a good soak) but tonight I noticed when she was moving about her tank she was doing something she's never done.

She's wedged herself between the lip of the tank and the lid. I usually keep books on each end of the lid (my biggest anthologies) to keep a weight on it, but now I'm concerned. I can't tell if she's trying to escape, and I don't even know how she got up there! She just keeps circling the inside of the top of the tank, and I'm wondering if she doesn't know how to get down? I discovered that she was doing this because I went to remove the tank lid and she fell back into the tank. Obviously I don't want to scare her/make her fall again, so I'm wondering...has anyone's snake ever done this?

(I attached the image as well in case linking it from facebook didn't work)

Normal behavior, either exploring or looking for escape routes. Udjat did that when he was smaller, but my second snake, Cairo, doesn't. She'll outgrow the space soon.

Just a heads up, most baby corns LOVE that gap, or gaps similar to it. So many threads and pictures of everyone's little guys and gals wedged up there just chillin. Little Plissken used to do it all the time too. There's tons of logical reasons behind it. Just be careful to look before opening.

My old corn used to love to do this! He'd crawl up in the wedge space and travel around the rim until he'd fall with a boom and then repeat the whole thing...over...and over...and over. I kept his tank in my room and this sometimes made for some noisy nights.

Mine have done the same. Kernel would get up there and not know how to get back down. I've since added more wood to his viv and now he will occasionally get up there but come back down rather quick now that he has an easy route down.

make sure the lid is good and tight. i've had escapes from babies lounging in the gap and then slipping out.

Mine used to do that all the time it's nothing to worry about they just being inquisitive they know every inch of the tank :)

I always say when not digesting, a baby corn snake sleeps 20 hours a day sleeping and spends the other 4 trying to escape.

I have two corns and a king that do that. My Ghost seems to especially enjoy the flopping part. Especially if she can make a total mess out o her water in the process.

Kingsley finally stopped doing that(thank god) he fell and bopped his head pretty good and that ended that. Actually has a scar from it lol.
Now Xavier is doing it though. *sigh* at least he has his pyramid to assist in his getting back down.
