Snake Journal

Hi everyone, I was thinking about starting a small "journal" for each snake I own to keep track of when when they poop/shed, or any other behavior. On one hand, this would be useful if I needed information on the last time the snake defecated or shed, but on the other hand, it seems like it would be kind of tedious/useless to write down every single time one my snake poops/sheds. Does anyone else keep a journal like this, and what is your opinion on it?

I do (well I dont write when they poop unless its not normal) I find it fun to look back at the history. all so good if you ever plan on selling the snake.

Hey Toots,
iherp.com can track all that for you online! Thats pretty much were I keep track of everything from feeding, regurge, shedding, pooping etc. I use to have a spiral notebook but it was hard to keep track of it.

With iherp.com both me and my husband have access to it and its cant be lost in the shuffle of every day life!

I keep a journal on feeding, shedding, weight etc. I also keep a growth chart on graph paper to track growth of individual babies. I am going to check into the iherp.com site. Sounds like a great way to keep records.

I use Google Docs. Someone on here shared a spreadsheet they had created, and I have a separate sheet for each snake. I keep track of weight, food, sheds, refusals and regurges.

There's a place there as well for locks/eggs if I decide to breed.

I tried iHerp...I just kept forgetting to go there and update it.

I use a self made Excel spreadsheet with a sheet for each snake too. The first sheet has an overview with cells turning green if they are ready to be fed. I keep track of shedding, eating (any associated problems), weight and special care if relevant. I also keep track of water chancing per group of vivs. I have tried multiple snake keeping progs but none served all my needs. Meanwhile there is also too many data to type over in a new system.

I guess I'm old fashioned. :) I use pen and paper. I document when and what they are fed, when I notice them beginning the shed cycle, when they shed. I also put down weights, although I weigh them infrequently.

I use pen and paper too Karoni. I tried iHerp but I found it alot easier to just go through the pages by hand in my notebook :)

I use iherp and a calender :).. I log on to iherp to update and I try to keep it pretty accurate. I use a calender at home to keep track on who needs fed when, as I have three different feeding schedules/days (one gets fuzzies, two-three get double pinks, and the rest single pinks).

I use calenders for everything, so I look at them on a daily.

The nice thing about Degei (I don't know if iHerp does this) is I can print out a complete record for the snake's life time, to bring to the vet or to send with the snake if sold.

I also like the growth chart feature, especially for animals that don't seem to ever progress, like tortoises.

Forgot that I document when they are in blue too, just to know when to skip a feeding though. And my weighing is not very frequently either. Handling them for feeding purposed enables keeping track of their health and growth but sometimes a weigh up is nice to confirm what I'm seeing.
