Snake Needing Bigger Tank??

My snake has begun "nosing" the screen top of his tank a bit in the last 24 hours. He doesn't do this normally. Does this mean that it's time for a bigger tank?? He's about maybe 17in(?) long, which is nearly the length of his current tank. I think it's a 20(?) gallon..

The general guideline is that it's time to move a juvenile to the next size tank, when it can stretch the length and width of the tank at the same time, so yours is a little way off that yet.

Could be a number of things causing a change in behaviour - the "joys of Spring", coming up to a shed, he thinks it's time to eat (N.B. this isn't the same as actually NEEDING to eat!) etc.

As long as you have no health concerns, I'd just check that temps inside the tank are OK, make sure that screen lid is secure and .... wait.
