Snake not pooping?

We've had our little Doof for about 1 1/2 weeks now. He didn't eat for 2 weeks before we got him due to shedding (didn't eat the week before and the week of). He ate a pinky for us this past Monday night. We were planning to feed him another pinky Sunday night, but despite several searches we have not found any poop. Should we be concerned? Should we go ahead and feed him again and hope for poop next week? Maybe his body needed everything from the pinky because he is just a little guy and had gone 3 weeks between meals?
I would greatly appreciate any help! We are really happy with our snake and would hate for there to be anything wrong!

Don't worry about it he will poop when ready. Feed on your normal schedule. Baby poop is very small and hard to see. If you are using wood shavings it is easy to overlook. Regardless, feed him on schedule, he will be fine.

Yes, we are using wood shavings. And he is in a 20gal long tank. Plenty of places to hide little poops! Thanks for the advice, we will feed him again tomorrow as planned and continue to check periodically.

Another thing: If you have lots of bedding, the corn may be burrowing. I increased the amount of aspen in my female's 20gal (she's 3months) and she's going nuts burrowing. Wouldn't be surprised to find some poo under there.

I love when you put new aspen in and it's all pillowy and lumpy, and you wake up the next morning and it's been flattened down and there are several dozen snake-sized exits and entrances throughout it. :)

We've looked everywhere. I really think he just hasn't pooped. Hopefully his little digestive system is just recovering from not eating while shedding, and he will poop after this next feeding.

I had the same issue when I first got my snake. http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92834

I thought I looked every where until I did a full cleaning of my tank and that's when I found his poop.

I have noticed that mine poops mostly against the sides of the tank(probably because that's where he spends most of the time). But like Wade said, baby poop is hard to spot!

Thanks! We are feeding him again tonight and I will start looking again in a couple of days. I'll really dig around underneath everything. I guess if I don't find it I will do a complete cleaning of the tank a little sooner than planned and I should find it then.

He's pooping, I promise you. He is. :)

If you want to see some snake poop I'll gladly send you some. :D

Christina, you're a great mom. I really think you are worrying too much about it. I'm sure your snake is fine. The time will come when you'll cuss the little pooper.

I had one of my corns about 1.5 months before I saw any poop, and he was eating regularly. I was getting ready to post this same kind of question when I woke up to a present right at the front glass of his viv ("See Mom? I'm fine."). Now that I know what I'm looking for, I see it on a regular basis. I have that light-colored aspen bedding, and he mostly goes underneath it, which makes it REALLY hard to find at first.

I still don't believe I've really seen any and I've had Bella for about a month. Not even sure what I'm looking for.

Well dang it, Rio has obliged and left another gift-on-the-glass, but my digital camera isn't working. It looks like a small brown clump, about the size of 2-3 bb's together, with some brown residue in the bedding around it. The first time I saw it, I thought it was discolored aspen. Rio usually leaves a couple of these around the tank each time. One time he pooped down the side of the glass from up in his tree, and left a white streak as well. Kinda like bird poop! And about that size, too.

Even if he isn't pooping, just keep putting it in, it will eventually come out. Don't worry too much! If it's bothering you that much, give it a bath in water that is about 85-90F. Or give him a goooood handling session. Those sometimes work.

Good Luck

Wayne

Thanks Wade, I really appreciate that!
His pinky is thawing right now. We want to try and watch him eat so we will see how it goes. He's used to eating in a small dark box. If he balks at having an audience we will move him to his box.

Sounds good. Now just because we have had this discussion he won't eat tonight. If that happens don't wig out on me, it is normal to skip every now and then. :)

Just be glad it isn't on you where he is going! Last night we had our newbie..Charlie out and she was crawling around on the bed and pooped right on our quilt. So now it has to go to the dry cleaners!! Guess we'll know better next time. And Willie seems to poop every time we have him out..oh well, makes clean-up easier!!

Have you spotted any white dust in the cage under the shavings? If yes that is lil baby snakey poo. Sometimes they have to go in the same spot a couple times before you notice it. My snakes had to get about 2 inches longer before I noticed their poos. Um, in easier terms to picture they had to be on double pinks before I began seeing their poos. Before then I just cleaned out the cages every other feeding. Note I was using shavings. Now I use paper towels and notice everything. Kinda wish I didn't lol, my snakes are poo machines! Always looks normal so not worried just surprised, lol!

Of course, now he has decided not to eat. It's just like having a baby again, worrying about how much it eats and poops! lol

I would suggest the good handling session too, if you are really worried about it. Then just check your clothes for what WASN'T there previously, and you will know what to look for in the shavings. Mine tried to get me the other day, and he's full size. I'm just glad I saw him start twitching his tail and got him to the floor in time. It wouldn't have been pretty.
