Snake on the Lose!

I am a first time snake owner and have only had our little guy for two weeks or so. Well, Friday night he ESCAPED!! I thought that the lid was secure, but after I realized he was gone I checked the lid and it had a break in the top!! My daughter and I are so sad that he's gone. I have set up the safe 2lt traps listed on this website, have bags around our bedroom, and some masking tape around various parts of the house. We keep him in our bedroom and our 7 month old puppy also sleeps in our room. The night Copper escaped the puppy was restless. I realized Copper was gone when I went to feed him mid-morning yesterday. I didn't see any evidence that the puppy ate him, but it is a possibility. We also have two cats, but I think they would be more afraid of a snake than anything. I have his cage on the floor now with it propped up a bit with his favorite hid near a heat source. We are still pretty cold here in NW WA so I'm worried that he's freezing, that something will eat him, that we won't find him :(
We are all very sad. I bought a new lid for his tank so if/when he turns up I will have something more secure for him. I know that snakes are escape artists, but he's my first and I was so afraid of messing it up and now he's gone. I just needed a place to express my feelings amongst people who would understand. I only have one friend that has snakes and she's been supportive and says that hers eventually turn up. The rest of my people don't really understand and are more terrified to visit now than anything.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my whining. We were going to add another snake to our lives in the spring, but we may get one sooner, we will see. We hope to find Copper soon AND get another corn snake. Sigh, he's super bright, but super small. I feel like we are looking for a needle in a haystack! Needless to say, the puppy is sleeping in his kennel for a while until we find Copper...:shrugs:

I'm so sorry. I'm still pretty new to corns, so I don't have any suggestions, but it sounds like you've done your homework on how to get him back. Please keep us posted.

I'm thinking good thoughts for you.

Casey

Follow the walls around from his viv. Look under everything on the floor. I had one baby escape- I found him under a stack of magazines.

Look for him after dark to see if he is venturing out.

:wavey:I'm sure the little fella will turn up sooner or later, I personally have had three escape on me and all of them showed up not long after they where gone, except one she was gone for two whole months and she showed up in my basement on a old bird cage, kinda startled me at first till I realized what I was looking at,then I grabbed her up and put her back in a more secure enclosure. GOOD LUCK.

You could try sprinkling some lines of flour at doorways, then when he slithers to somewhere else, you might be able to locate the exact room he's hiding in.

Theres no worse feeling than finding that one of your snakes escaped.
The important thing is to follow the advise given to you in the above posts and to not give up.
A good heat source is also a good attractant for a wayward snake.
We lost a Four footer for over Two Months and he showed up near an oil heater that we had under one of our Vivs.
I gave up after several weeks of looking but in the end he found us.

Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your thoughts! Although everyone told me I'd find him I didn't believe I would. Well tonight I was moving o e of the bags I set out to hear him moving and there he was, all curled up. He was freezing and MAD when I put him in his viv. He even snapped at me and played rattler. I'm going to let him settle in for a few days and then feed him. I have two lids on the viv until I can get the one replaced.
Thanks again for all your thoughts and advise!! I believe in the power of positive thought and I really do appreciate all the good vibes you all sent.
