Snake semen?

Camille

Herper Wife
Alright well we've had our snakes together for abouta week and we thought that nothing was happening but weve noticed something odd(wich we should have noticed before. Now ive seen pictures of snake semen fresh on forums but never seen it dried up and was woundering if anyone knows what it looks like. We found these spots of white powdery substances wich we thought to be urates but are too thick and more powdery with nothing else with it (like fecal matter) and weve found them several time. And theres none of the yellow stuff usually found in urates either. And weve seen them in the cage every single day.

Could this be snake semen? :shrugs:

Well its alot thicker than the usual urine we have in the cages of our colurbrids. The female was rescued, we dont know how old she is but shes mature. She originally came as a proven pair but the guy sold the male. The male is around 2 years old.

It might be serm, I find "sperm plugs" some times in my male Honduran Milksnakes cage when he hasent been indroduced to a female, I think they get excited about the smell of females

Just a note these guys are ratsnakes not corns. a everglades ratsnake and a black rat/evereglades rat cross. Our good friend Paula suggested we introduce them together without using photoperiod or cooling to see. She uses manipulation of photoperiod on her black rats and said that there was a chance that something could come of the breeding even though it is later in the season. Both snakes are healthy and breeding age so we thought we might as well try it.Give us some practice before we try our corns(Hopefully next year if the females are the right size, if not then the year after unless i get my hands on adult corns)
