snake suddenly flipping his hides

Reggie the corn snake, who I've had since November, has taken up an odd habit. After spending most of his time in his hides, recently he has been out of them most of the time I enter the room (I always come in late evenings).

Then lately each time I come in his hides are flipped over! Granted two of them are cardboard boxes (which used to be his favorite hides), but he even flips over the heavier ceramic hide.

I put them back each night, and each day I come in and they're flipped over again.

Has anyone seem this? Does it mean anything in particular?

He has seemed a little more agitated and jumpy when I handle him lately, I assume this is because he's not getting enough feeling of security with his hides flipped over and not covering him.

That is just too cute.
My ball python likes to push his around - mind you, he's much stronger than my corn. I really can't say there's anything "wrong" ;) just odd and unique it sounds like! You could maybe add a little extra substrate to the bottom if you use aspen or anything like that, for digging. Or black out/cover up 3 of the sides if it is glass (since you talked about being worried about security).

Otherwise that is just adorable stuff right there.

Yeah, it actually goes one step further. He seems to be stacking them up, one on top of the other. I started to wonder if I have the world's smartest snake and this is his escape plan or something! Hahaha.

All of my snakes are in breeding mode. Super active and twitchy. They flip their hides and their water bowls over. Making me have to constantly give them new bedding and refill their bowls. I'm trying to find some really heavy bowls that will be harder for them to flip over lol.

How old is your snake? He may have spring fever too. Either that or he is too hot. Make sure to check his temperatures as that can also cause wild behavior.

Obviously he has been throwing wild snake parties while you're not around.
I doubt he even cares if his friends have been quarantined!! Dangerous behavior from such a young snake :(

I agree, it sounds like "youth gone wild", keep an eye on him, make sure he is home by curfew, and you may consider seeing a therapist. He will probably grow out of this stage, but make sure you know his friends and their parents so if you have to stage an intervention you will know more about what he is up too. Young snakes will be hooligans, the only reason he is flipping stuff is because he has no opposable thumbs and can't graffiti anything.

My abbott's okeetee is definitely feeling spring fever. She's gone bonkers in the past 2 weeks, flipping everything over, soaking herself and the whole viv, trying to get out and all kinds of stuff. She did this last year, then decided to lay a big ol' buncha slugs. I need to find her a man. Lol.
