snakes are deaf, but....

I know that snakes cant hear, and that they respond only to ground vibrations. heres my question: I play guitar, and while i figure my accoustic is fine, my twin speaker amp for my electric can make alot of sound. I was wondering if the sounds from the amp can cause the snake discomfort. if by chance he can feel it in his cage i figure he might start freaking out. anybody know?

Well actually, as well as being extremely sensitive to vibration and motion. Snakes can hear, they've no external ears, but they have a quadrate bone under the skin around the head that picks up low frequency sounds and focuses it into the cochlea. But its at such a low frequency (200-300Hz) that I guess it's almost like being deaf lol.

I have a subwoofer on the floor in the Office, and the snake is in the next room, with thin walls. And I once wondered it. But I think it would only be stressful for them if you played guitar ALL the time. So I wouldn't worry too much :)
Hope this helps.

dpends on the size of your guitar, if its the sze on my friends then yes it would be discomfort, his it like 3 foot by 3 foot!!!
if its a small one then you shouldnt worry to much, but if you can feel the vibratins on the ground then yeah, two much, put your fingure buy the amp and play a chord, f you can feel it then your snake can feel it, if you cant feel it then dont worry to much

thats the thing about amps, the size isnt what matters. its a line 6 210, 100 watt. but i can (and usually do) keep the volume to a respectable level. also, u can feel sound vibrations at certain frequencies. some notes can be loud as crap and u ownt feel anything, but a half pitch higher and ur ribs will vibrate. im thinkin now that the snake should be fine. i can always watch it to see how it responds when im playing, but theres a good chance it wont even know anything is going on.

I was in a band a few years back and one of our tracks in particular made my Corns go mental. It was a real dance track - lots of heavy bass. I stuck to listening to it on headphones to save them throwing themselves around the tank. Strangely, they were fine with the rest of the CD. Guess we just hit the right (/wrong) frequency with that one.

Everybody's a critic...

:roflmao: thats awesome

yea i was wondering the same thing as Specter_Blue since i play guitar and bass and i play in my bedroom where the snakes are. i only have 15 watt amps right now so i dont think its a problem but i want to get a 50-100 watt amp and that might be to loud for them and cause vibrations.

You can attempt to lessen the vibrations by putting some old carpet or something under the tank :shrugs:

yeah, i meant amp,

its like my frined house, the vibratiions are so bad it made plates fall of the shelves and smash, im supprised his parents and neighbours dont hate him... lol
