Yeah, Connie and I saw a gray rat snake crossing the road a couple of days ago. She was driving and we were on the way back home from running errands. It was on the dirt road that runs through our property, heading towards the house (and our bird feeders). So she stopped the Jeep and I jumped out to turn him around. I just stuck my foot in front of my face thinking he would turn around and bolt, but no, he just lifted up his head and laid it on my foot. I thought he was going to crawl up my leg.
Well he did eventually turn around and head the other way, but he wasn't in any hurry about it.
Animals have been acting weird lately, it seems. Several days ago I was putting quarter inch hardware cloth on the vents to our crawlspace, as rodents had chewed through some of the fine screen mesh the builders used and gaining access underneath our house. So I went around back and there was a fence lizard laying right up in the first vent I wanted to work on. I had to actually tap him on the tail before he would move. So I finished up that vent and went to the next one. And there was the fence lizard again. But at least he wasn't laying up in the vent. But he was only about 3 inches away from where I needed to work and I thought for certain he would run off. Nope. I did the vent and the whole time I could have touched him with my nose if I wanted to. He just watched me the entire time. Only time he jumped was when a stone jabbed me in the shin and I jumped myself. But even then it was just a sort of shake from him, and he didn't move even a half an inch. Strange....
