havent been on here ina long time, learned alot from this place though and i wanted to share a little story and maybe offer some advice to new snake owners. i cant quite remember how old my corn is but hes around 26- 28 inches long, not as thick as others ive seen his length but hes got decent girth.
a little background, 7 or 8 months ago i bought a mesh terrarium for him. stands about 5 feet tall, foot and a half deep at its deepest and about 3 feet wide. i attached a second level for him to climb on where theres no heat which i see him on a fair amount. he has the usually, a few vines, some plants, a couple water bowls, a few good hiding spots and i constantly find him at the top of the terrarium between the tubes and the mesh, somehow he manages to squeeze a bit of himself in ther and he likes to move across the top and falls down 2 out of 3 times and then tries again.
anyways to my story, the terrarium has a waterfall in it that i used for about a week and had the power cable running out of the back of the unit, silly me i had used some tape to cover up the hole assuming he wouldnt find it. well he did. i wake up one morning, get ready for work, go up stairs and start making breakfast and out of the corner of my eye i see red orange and a hint of white and think nothing of it, then it hits me, i lift up the bag of wonderbread and wouldnt you know it, theres my corn under the bag. i had no idea he had even escaped at that point, he managed to climb a flight of stairs and then got onto the countertop between it and the fridge and was just hanging out there under a bag of bread.
i was very lucky in this and its made me very paranoid about an escape again. i fixed the small opening inthe mesh with some fishing line and everytime i walk by the terrarium now i check to make sure he hasnt escaped and always check the zipper to make sure its tight.
so to all new corn snake owners, make sure your enclosure is secure, these guys can fit through the smallest of holes and as soon as their heads fit through theyre gonna make sure the rest of them fits aswell
