So I'm not going to deal with ZooMed anymore...

I spent an hour arguing with someone on the phone this morning when trying to explain that my thermostat isn't working. She tried to tell me

1) That I need to be measuring ambient room temperature, not ground temperature and that 85 at ground temperature was not hot enough for a corn snake.
2) That the thermostat should work by turning off the heater if it gets too hot, and isn't supposed to keep it at a set temperature.
3) That even though I followed the instructions to a T and the thermostat still did NOTHING to affect the temperature at all, I had simply not installed it right and there was nothing wrong with it.

So there was 50 bucks down the drain... I really can't affford it but I ordered a different thermostat just now, this one: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-MTPRTC-Digital-Thermostat-Heat/dp/B000NZZG3S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1350334900&sr=8-2&keywords=thermostat+reptile.

I want my money back but mostly I just want a working thermostat and a tank I can comfortably keep my boy in... rather than having to use the space heater to keep the whole room at 80 degrees! At least this thermostat has an actual digital number I can set it to, good grief.

Where did you buy it? As a pet shop owner, I'll gladly take back/get working/figure out anything going wrong with a product. You usually don't pay THAT much more from a brick and mortar store, and you get customer support.

And FWIW, the ZooMed rep was not wrong with points 1 & 2. If the room was too cold/UTH undersized, she was right about 3 as well.

I think that she was wrong about the first one, Chip. I thought that 85 at ground temp was what is recommended and that the ambient temps don't matter too much as long as they are in the mid 70s-low 80s. 85 is definitely hot enough for a corn snake.

If you are putting your probe on the heat (and I hope you are), the thermostat turning off when your UTH reaches 85 is not warm enough. Unless you're in a 75 plus degree room, maybe.

Kind of wish I had found that hydrofarm thermostat before I purchased my zoo med one as well. It works well enough for me but I'd like the digital reading so I have a true reading of what my temp is by the thermostat not just a thermometer check.

The first thing everyone with a corn snake needs to save up for during this change of seasons -if they don't already own one -is an infrared thermometer. They are worth their weight in gold, and a decent one will last for ages. The most important parameter of all is temperature.

kipchack - I hear you. I do not buy anything that says it is for reptiles. The only thing I have for my snakes that is actually made for them is my snake rack.

My thermostat is made for HVAC use.
My water bowels are for dogs.
Substrate is for horse stalls (Aspen).

Ok, the frozen mice are for snakes only but I could use them to feed the hawk that hunts my bird feeders.

Zoomed girl just does not want to refund the money or replace there product.
