My first corn snake was a birthday present from my spouse. A VERY unexpected present, considering my spouse is terrified of snakes. After 19 years together, I had lost hope that he would ever "give in" and let me get a snake, so you can imagine my happy surprise when he presented me with a snow corn on my birthday. We had been to PetCo the day before, and I had admired a tiny-tiny hatchling that the sales person told us wasn't eating.

I don't know if it is because he knows I would worry about the little thing dying of starvation or if it was because I had taken care of him for 3 months after his thyroid cancer removal and he wanted to show me how much he appreciated me (I prefer to think it was the latter), but in any case my little snow corn was my first snake as an adult.

Well, today as I was taking her out to clean her cage, I couldn't help but notice that she seemed to have some kind of faint reddish-pink appearing down her back. I took her out side to get a better look in natural light, and (much to my astonishment) I discovered that she has a very light dusting of pink, yellow and very light GREEN developing!!! After some googling I came across pictures of a morph called Coral (or Coral-Snow) that I am convinced she is!!!

I will take her back outside tomorrow (weather permitting) and try to get a picture that shows her awesome coloration! I am so thrilled! She is an absolute angle compared to my Everglades Rat Snakes, and I didn't think it possible I could love her any more, but seeing her colors in natural light today my heart just swelled up!!! :-D

Your snake sounds beautiful. Some snows develop amazing colors! Congrats.

Thank you! I have been having all sorts of problems this past week, between it turning into a drastically hot winter here and me having both a under tank heater and 2(!) ceramic heat lamps going out Christmas Eve night, I have been jumping through hoops with my snakes.
Discovering such an unexpected surprise gave me a smil just when I needed it! :-D

Our snake friends are like that. Everything can be poopy and then they'll do something that brightens the day and brings a smile. Glad you have her.

I have been SO BUSY lately, I haven't had time to post the promised pics. It was nice and sunny out side today, so I took her out and tried to get some good pics, but I was using my phone (have apparently misplaced my camera) and the colors still didn't come through well at all :( I really wish there were some way to,show you guys what I am seeing, as her coloration si really quite remarkable! Where on a normal snow, the the saddle areas that normally turn a beige color are a very light pastel green, and the areas that are normally pure white look as though they have a very very fine misting of white.

*UGH! fine misting of RED! (Not White!)

Nice looking snake! Is it eating yet?

Thank you! Oh yes, she wasn't eating when I first got her, but she was only a little over 9 inches then. Now, she is almost 2 ft long and has an AWESOEM feed response! Even though she is on frozen/thawed hoppers for some reason she likes to beat them against the side of her feeding tank before she coils! Lol

It is very difficult to capture some of the more subtle colors in a photo. But I do get the idea from the pic you posted. She sure is a beauty.

Glad she likes her dead mice really dead!

Thanks, I hope everyone (and you particularly) can get an idea of what I was seeing when I took the pic. She really is stunning in such a stunning way! :)

I have to say that, besides morphology, having had her before I got my rat snakes, I am able to really appreciate the domestic mindedness of corns. While I do genuinely love my rat snakes, Solmae's calm demeanor and gentle curosity are such a pleasure in comparison. In fact, it is her steadfast calmness that makes her viscous and deliberate "kills" at feeding time so hilariously shocking! When I say she attacks her food, I mean she ATTACKS! It's like Corn Snake Fight Club! :-D

Lol. Some of them are gentle souls, but agressive eaters. Love it. I'm looking forward to more pics. Eventually you will get one closer to reality. I still can see what you mean though.
