Socrates shed this morning

I just wanted to share this with you all...

I noticed a shed head skin in Socrates tank this morning. Then when I peeked I saw he was shedding. He was squirming all over the show. As the head bit had come off I thought 'oh, he's not going to shed in one piece' and he's due for a feed today.

So I left him to his own devices to just wait and see. Then I read some threads on here about shedding and how you can put damp paper towels in the tank. I was just about to put some in his tank when I noticed a whole length of skin -he'd already shed. It was so quick. There was only a tiny bit left on his tail, which slid off easily by runnig his tail through a piece of wet paper towel.

I'm really chuffed because I was worried about the shedding aspect.

Scooby hasn't shed yet though but I'm sure he will when he's ready.

Your lucky you got to see him shed. I've had my adult for 3 years and only witnessed her shed once. The 2 babies have shed and I've yet to witness it. It really is neat to watch. Hope you get to witness your other one shed..

It's great that he shed in one piece. If you are at all worried for next time, just start misting the tank twice a day on the warm side when you notice the snake is going into its shed phase. You can also make a moist hide out of a plastic container and put damp moss in it. Place it on the warm side of the tank. Make sure that the opening to the container is not rough. My husband used a little router I believe to smooth the edges of his cut. I tried this for the first time a few weeks ago and Markey loved it! She would keep half of her body inside the moist hide and half of her body in another hide. She had a perfect shed.
