Some questions I've been thinkin bout

So, first off, sorry if this is in the wrong place. I took a guess as to where it might be best placed.
First question, I have an anery mot. that I want to breed in a few years when and if its ready and I have been reading up on that, but I'm not sure what I should pair it with to get some interesting morphs in the offspring. I would like to see some cool things from the very first clutch but I do realize that that is probably not very likely. So, my question is any ideas on what to pair him with?

Second question, can u give me an idea as to what a good price for the suggested morph is? As I don't want to pay too much or pass up a good deal if I see one. ;)

Last question, I really really want a hypo lavender and I seen one, but didn't pay attention to the price at the time as I was broke that day. lol. So, my question is what's a reasonable price to pay for one?

Note: On price questions I realize that it is different from area to area, but I am just asking for a general idea of a price range that's reasonable. I am new to the hobby and I only have two places around here that even sell corns so comparing isn't really an option. lol. So, all comments, answers, feedbacks and advice are welcome and thanks in advance! :)

You can only get in the offspring what is already present (or het) in BOTH adults.

In other words...if you want amel babies, then both parents must be amel or het amel. if you want striped babies then both parents must be stripe or het stripe, etc...

So the only options (besides normal) to get from an anery motley are anery, motley, and/or anery motley. (All depending on what it is bred with.)

There is one slight exception with the motley pattern. Due to the way their genetics work if you breed a motley to a stripe you will get a "motley-stripe" which is an animal that has 1 motley allele, 1 stripe allele, but since they are on the same locus they work together and you will see a motley to motley stripe-ish pattern (so the pattern will still look like motley)

anery motley x anery = anery het motley
anery motley x anery het motley = anery and anery motley
anery motley x motley = motley het anery
anery motley x anery motley = anery motley
anery motley x lavender = all normals het anery motley lavender

etc...

OKay, thanks for your reply. So, if i bred my anery motley with an anery motley that was het for something then could i breed the offspring together or back with the parent in a few years and have that het show?

Another option I remembered is tessera, which because of how it works (as a dominant gene) will show up in the first generation of offspring. However you'd be looking at spending 400-500-600++ dollars for a tessera.

Anyway, you could breed your anery motley with anything and then take those offspring and breed them back to eachother to get that anything to show. I don't think I'd breed it to something het though, I'd breed it to something visual. Because if you breed it to something het then you won't know whether those offspring are het for it or not.

example:

Lets say you wanted to add amel into the mix.

So you breed anery motley x anery motley het amel.
You'd get 100% anery motley, but they'd only have a 50% chance of being het amel. So when you end up breeding these offspring together you might be pairing up snakes that are not het amel, in which case you still wouldn't get any amel to show.

If you instead breed the anery motley x anery amel motley (i.e. snow motley).
You'd get 100% anery motley, and in this case they would all definitely be amel.

Lets say you wanted to add lavender and amel. Another thing you could do is:

anery motley x lavender amel ("opal") = all normals het anery amel lavender motley.

You could then breed those offspring together to get quite a wide range of offspring such as:
Normals, anery, amel, lavender, motley, snow, anery lavender, anery motley, opal, amel motley, lavender motley, lavender snow, snow motley, anery lavender motley, opal motley, lavender snow motley.

So you have a lot of options if you don't mind waiting until the f2 generation. You can add pretty much any morph you want.

I haven't been keeping up with prices for the last year so I am horrible with prices. My guess though would be around $75ish.

The opals het anery I produced this year I sold for $40-$50. I think I was on the low end though. :D
