Went up to 6mm today, it's pretty small, some Indians etc have gone to like 38mm which i would like to add is MASSIVE!! Mine's a nice size ATM, stopping at 8 or 10mm but I wont be going up anymore for a few weeks, as you can see my ear is all swollen!

Ouch George... I think 12mm is a perfect size. Although I would never do it. Past 10 and your ear never heals...

It'll heal...but your lobe may never "shrink" back to original size. But the hole will definitely heal. Once you distend the natural shape and length of the earlobe, it has a difficult time regaining it's original elasticity and length...kind of like a pair of 30 year old boxer shorts that the elastic has stretched too far on...you can repair the damage, but the elasticity never returns, and therefor the original length is lost. The earlobe operates in the same manner...the hole will heal, but the elasticity is gone, never to return.

FWIW...go slow. Scar tissue is probably the hardest part of healing one you no longer want. It never goes away, and even stretching the lobe causes scar tissue if it's done too fast.

I have a 5/8" in my left ear(not sure how many mm that is, but it's definitely a lot bigger than the one in the picture), and I took a full 8 years to get to that size. I started with a 12 gague captive bead hoop, and simply let the weight of the stainless steel bead do all the work. Now I wear plugs, and weight doesn't stretch it, so I only change sizes when I need to, in order to prevent lost jewelry. I've only gone up in size twice in the last 4 years or so. Sleeping and removing it to clean it causes stretching, albeit very slowly. I need to go up in size about once every other year to keep jewelry fitting properly...

It's looking nice, George. Looks like a nice clean piercing and stretch...

I have never been one into special peircings or body art myself, but I think being a ballroom dancer has alot to do with that. But good for you for expressing yourself and just keep up the safe healthy guidelines that the other posters have mentioned. We wouldnt want an unhealthy George on our hands!

:)

Thanks guys,

Yea I do obsess over making sure everything is clean before I use it, and I'm going to keep the piercing clean too, I don't want any kinds of infections, I went through 2 weeks of pain with an infection on my eyebrow because i never cleared new bars i bought, I will make sure i do this time though : )

Good luck with it George, ANYTHING I get pierced always gets infected because I never take care of it. I went through months of pain before my tragus healed... now its perfectly fine, but it always takes a good few months to stop being sore and heal, even something as simple as an ear piercing...

I will HAVE to take perfect care of my next piercing, as an infected nipple won't be very pleasant LOL

2G is the size, the plug itself makes the piercing look pretty small, The hole itself is not too big, but at the same time, it's not as tiny as the hole in the picture, the rim of the plug is pretty thick and my ear is swollen a lot, when i go bigger I will be getting a plug with a big hole and a little rim..

ty do you have some pictures of yours? I'm interested to see : )

I would stretch that 6mm to an 8 by the beginning/middle of next year, and no sooner. It takes months for the skin to stretch and heal. Chris is right, theres a point of no return, where the ear shape will never go back to "normal".

This whole thread is making me very dizzy. I think I'm going to pass out. *insert "swoon" emoticon here*

I have one small tattoo (soon to have a second) and my ears are pierced twice. But beyond that...YIKES! :sidestep:

My husband got his nipples pierced shortly before we started dating and that freaked me the heck out. I was glad when he took them out this past winter.

You are a brave man, George. That looks too painful for me. :eek1:

I can tell you from experience, it's not pleasant at ALL! Word of advice - make sure they use the right size of jewlery. I'm not 100% sure what size, which probably doesnt help, but when I got mine done, the guy used jewlery that was too small, and my nipples tried to over-heal themselves, causing a rejection. Waste of $60. I have a friend, who explained the whole issue to me, and why the rejected, and stuff. I'm going to try and get them done again, but I'm not sure, as they arent ever going to be the same again. I've lost some tissue - not a LOT, but enough to "disfigure" my nipples. It sucks, but what can ya do, ya know? If I get them done again, it'll have to be vertical, rather than the normal horizontal.

I know exactly what you mean. I am going with horizontal, and a straight bar first. Meaning if things do start to swell, I can just buy a longer bar and change the jewellery myself.

I had swelling issues with my tragus, which meant I have to remove the bar everynight and completely disinfect my ear and jewellery. It took 2 months for the swelling to go down, and for the last year its been perfect, no issues at all.

Yea I was considering doing it in a few weeks, but you guys are right, I don't want to rush things, some people go from 1-10 in one day, I went from 1-6 in about a week or so, so I think now I'll leave it to settle in before starting again, many people who do it slow say its less painful, for those who do it fast i always get told it hurts a lot, tbh i have felt very little pain, the worst bit is hearing your skin stretch its like a ripping sound that.. well its just not nice lol!

Barbarians! :grin01: :sidestep:

I've only ever had one body mutilation procedure done to me. But I was a newborn, and no one asked for my consent. ;)

Here ya' go, George. One with the bamboo plug in place, and one without...
