I am new to snakes, pretty much.
I am keeping two Oct '03 juves in a 20L viv with the following:
Cut-to-fit carpet... This is like a thick, coarse felt
Two clumps of Spanish Moss (<I>not sphagnum</I>)
A large water dish made of sandstone-like cement/plaster
A branch for climbing
So far I love the carpet (I have two), I just yank one carpet and drop the new one in, go rinse the old carpet out in the backyard.
The Spanish Moss is cool, the snakes love to get lost inside it. I suspect it feels like home to them. Spanish Moss is an "Air Plant" meaning it supposedly needs no soil/roots but takes its nourishment from the air and water it gets... I have been wondering if anyone has tried live Spanish Moss as a substrate or viv prop.
I've also been wondering how well snake poop fertilizes Spanish Moss and how often the Moss will need to be changed out.
