Spontaneous conception?

Hey I heard from a local snake person that it is entirely possible for a female bloodred to spontaneously develop eggs . Does anyone know if this is true and if so are they viable? Thanks

Any unbred female snake can develop infertile eggs (slugs). They may be reabsorbed, but even if they are laid they won't hatch. (Unless the female has bred in the past and retained sperm)

It can be a problem for sure.

I have an elderly female that insists on producing a full clutch of slugs - followed by a second smaller clutch - every year. I did breed from her when she was younger, but fondly imagined if I didn't mate her, she'd stop. I reckoned without Mother Nature. She's in her late teens and getting the weight/condition back on her is getting more difficult with every year.

I guess I should think myself lucky she's made it this far, but life would be so much easier on her, if her system would just ease back a bit.

Well, much like has been discussed in other sections of the forum, She hasn't eaten since June 11th. She usually eats every 10 days, but has refused (scared like) her feedings the past few attempts. She also hasn't pooped since maybe the 12th or 13th. Ive tried bathing her in temp appropriate water but nothing. If it is a clutch of slugs, how long is average before she absorbs or passes? She looks great and acts fine also, just not eating.
