Spring is in the air?

Okay... I noticed Roxy has been acting strange lately.... out of hide alot of the time, just chilling outside.... burrowing a lot more..... and today i almost had a heart attack because I thought she died. shes just chilling in her water bowl.... for hours.... and head just barely above water.... is it dangerous? for scale rot? anyways.... if not.... its okay.... but.... its still not like her.... is it the hormones..... wanting to mate? She is habbed right beside the enclosure of my male hoggy who went off feed.... possibly cuz of mating season too? Maybe they both sending out pheramones...?

I am hoping that is what it is too, because my girl Scarlett is going nuts in her viv. She is 2.5 years old, I have had her for almost 1.5 years and have never seen this behavior. She has worn a path going back and forth across the front of the viv really fast, all day and night. She refused to eat this week and just shed 10 days ago, but she is also doing a little soaking too which she has never done before.

yea it worries me bec\use she has never soaked... or just hung out in the open.... still eating fine.. or at least she has, feeding is today..

Snakes will soak for a few different reasons.
One is trying to cool down due to their environment being to hot.
Another is being in their shed cycle and trying to help slothing.
And another is to remove any external parasites like mites.
And then there's the "who the heck knows???" reason that snakes seem to fall into a lot LOL. Spring fever is a possibility.

I think it's possible that I have a horny snake. She wants the D.... or I suppose in this case, the H

and shes hungry too... only other time i saw her jump at food that quick is when i skipped a week of feeding. I mean today it is a day late... but still...

If she has that much of her body in the water it really makes me think about when I went through the mite war. I would watch for those.

My girl has been nuts lately too. She has been super active and alert. I have seen her in her bowl here and there but not soaking, just crawling through the water making a mess.

Wadjet has been really active, too. Pinkie (male BP) is still pretending to be a ball inside his warm hide.

What's even more funny is that Allidraggy got her a dragon tank ornament (sold for fish tanks) for Christmas-and recently, Wadjet has been pushing the dragon into her water dish. I'd thought she was just hitting him when she was slithering around, as active as she's been, until I heard clunking and watched the snake very deliberately PUSH the dragon over-then slither away, with what I'm pretty convinced was a satisfied look on her face. Guess if she can't mate with him, he's no good to her ;).

its weird I just fed her... and all shes doing is slithering around. Usually after a feed you goes and curls up in her hot hide for a couple days.... shes just wondering around.......
what the heck....

One of my females is very active lately. She climbs around her tank most of the day. Luckily she hasn't refused food, but I'm pretty sure her activity is due to the season.

I really hope so, this isn't one of those things I have come across in anything I've read, and it seems uncommon. Scarlett is now in one hide, but the path she made is almost completely bare to the glass! She was whipping her head around like mad, like she was searching for something, and did this non-stop for days.

I'll see how the rest of the week goes before I try to feed her again.

Mine has dug holes in the aspen, so the glass is visible. I keep re-fluffing it, and she just does it again. Silly snake.

My two are really active too! I thought it was because the house air temperature is warmer and they're not huddled in their warm hides. I bought them both bendy branches and they love them - around and around on the bendy branch and then make some holes in the aspen. :)

Mystery solved! Scarlett laid an egg! She is now totally calm and actually pushed the substrate BACK to where she cleared a path! It obviously is a slug, but it is my first grand-slug, so I am proud.

Happy for you and your non egg..hopefully don't get one. She's a Bit small to lay I think....at a year and 185 gr

Yeah, I was worried too, Scar is 2.5 years and just over 200g, but I did hold her last night and felt for eggs but felt no obvious lumps. I will keep an eye on her.

Wow! Cool

I should check Snow's viv. She's huge at 600g despite only being fed a mouse every 2 weeks.
