Staying Still in my hand?

Hi guys this is my first post :)

got my corn at 10 weeks old, now is coming up for 7 month, since i got her i followed all the rules, handling, feeding etc

she is a great wee snake quite shy never even attempted to strike at me ever, of course at the start she was scared and tried to hide when i was going to handle her but over the months she has got used to it, im very happy with her nature.

she eats, poops and sheds like a pro ;) just last week got her on to a small mouse and she took it straight away.

now heres where i am confused over the last few weeks when handling she is very carefull and moves slow and backs up on her self alot like she isnt sure but eventually after she gets used to me she gets more active. sometimes she will just sit completely still for a minute or so only breathing and flicking her tongue (not rapidly) and she does this until i move her lol

im sure its nothing and just put it down to age and trust but if anyone knows everything different would love to know :D

I have held her for 5-10 mins near enough since i got her

also i have not changed her feeding pattern, temp etc

george

She's just really relaxed! If she was frightened, she would back up or go forward quickly, or jump out of your hand.

Thats made me feel much better Nanci cheerz, she backs up quite alot on herslef like she will be moving through my fingers then she changes her mind and pulls out lol i thought she was nervous, so at 7 month to be that relaxed surely must be good and she will continue to get better with age :)

My snake does it too, it's them just sitting and relaxing like Nanci said. Sometimes he'll sit perfectly still but flicker his tail, I always call it him thinking. XD

nice one is that common for a 7 moth old corn i thought she would start to relax after a year or so, lol how old is yours? as i said she is a great wee snake but would like to see her roam around her tank and not do it when im asleep :p

Mine will sit still for a while. I figure he just sees something interesting and has to think on it a bit.

Or he's pooping on me.

my corn is just coming up on a year in August, and he's soooo calm! I actually call him my "Ball Python/Corn hybrid" lol cause of his calmness, if I lift his hide he'll just look up at me and let me scoop him up then he just sit their in my hand pretty much motionless except for a few tongue flicks. after about 5-10 minuets he'll finally start to explore a little more, but for the most part he's happy to just sit in my hand or my lap.
I do atribute this to my handling of his from a hatchling, But he's always been more on the calm side of things.

he seem's to be nothing like your adverage Corn.. lol

Aww how sweet! Mine definitely isn't a cuddler, he loves wandering and going on adventures. Although during the last big thunderstorm he was curled up in my sweater for a good 15 minutes.

awe, thats cute! ^^ (He was scared..)

yeah my guys most obviously not the adverage corn.. lol I lucked out with him.

IMO average is ambiguous. I have both extreams... 1 that just sits there and the other that cant sit still

Mine was insanely "busy" when I first got her, now she's nebby-busy, but not escapist-busy, with times just sitting still.
My FWC will just chill, tongue goes nearly non-stop but body just sits still. Swear it was falling asleep in my hand.

ETA - had my corn about 13months now, she is about 15mos old.

The one thing I love the most about our corn (well my daughter's ) is that sometimes when he is a bit cool, I pick him up and cup my hands. He always curls up in a ball then sticks his head out about an inch and will remain like that for ages. I can just sit and enjoy him and he seems content to absorb the heat and just look around. I have noticed in the summer, this does not last very long and he starts exploring.

The poop comment really had me giggling--my daughter always says that, "he's stopped, it means he's going to poop!". I've only been pooped on once, so I consider myself lucky.

Your daughter's right. You can almost set your watch by it... And the bigger the snake the bigger the meals become and the bigger the surprises.

Wonderful :awcrap:

Hey, small world--I used to live in Moon and went to Robert Morris. I still have some family there. Haven't been back since the early 90's though.

I went to Bobbie Mo for about a year towards my MBA in the early 80's - but ended up bagging it. I hated math with a passion - but liked Dr Z. as he was interested in seeing us succeed.

The College-turned-University has expanded quite a bit since you probably went there, AFAIK - they just now bought the Holiday Inn on Beers School aka University Blvd to turn into student apts - kinda like what DUQ did up on the bluff.

And Moon HS - looks like a college campus now with a new stadium.

They're still hashing over the construction of a Wallymart on the site of the old strip shopping center between the Nissan dealer and Broadhead Rd.
