Stealth Poop

Sorry, I'm sure the topic has been discussed many times. Do the month old hatchlings poop under substrate or is it scattered and not easily recognized? Since I wasn't aware how often, I was looking careful yet. Since third feeding was last night (1st feed on the 10th and day early on 3rd in prep for trip), I'm sure Mason has poops somewhere in the 29 gallon tank. Looks like a good cleaning is in order, regardless.

Yes, hatchlings do stealth poop ;) I had a lot of trouble finding it when ours were tiny, because it's generally a small-ish amount, and they would always go under the substrate. I eventually learned their favorite spots to poop (generally in the back corners under the substrate)...and of course as they grew larger, so did their poop, so it was much easier to find :)

Thanks Lisa. So is it just easier to change out the substrate more often when they are smaller hatchlings. Hate to go through a 29 gal worth of aspen more than needed, but maybe better to error on cleanliness side than encourage bacterial growth.
