sticky situation...

somehow flick managed to knock his hygrometer off the wall and get it stuck to him. (he climbs on it all the time and it was secure, so i have no idea how it managed to fall.) he removed it himself by rubbing up against his hide (i woke up because he was making noise). however, when i took the hygrometer out of the viv, i noticed a tiny bit of his "skin" on the sticky part.

the "skin" i see on the adhesive is clear...just the thinnest layer, but enough to see a very very slight resemblence of his pattern. it's no bigger than a 1/4 inch.

when i look at him, i can see that he's just a little more dull in that small area. there are no scales missing or tissue showing at all. i don't know how to explain it exactly, it was just the thinnest layer.

i'm just wondering if this could cause any sort of problems? i can't imagine it would because unless you look at him really really close, you can't even tell a difference.

will this affect his shed?

A couple of years ago at our rehab center, some lady brought in a rat snake that she found in her attic. It was crawling in between some boxes and managed to get pretty well wrapped up in packaging tape. We soaked it and did what we could but when it came off, little bits of skin came with it as you are describing. Because it had been there for awhile, it was pretty thin, so we kept it until we got it back to normal weight and it happened to shed during this time, but without any problems. It was released and everything was fine. I don't know anything about whether the glue from your hygrometer could potentially be toxic or not, but as far as shedding I don't think you'll have any problems. I'd say, at most, you might have a hole in the shed around that area if he pulled off a lot.

A shed will probably start soon to get everything back to normal, don't worry 2 much as their is no long term damage done.

Oh dear! Poor little Flick! It doesn't sound like any major damage was done so hopefully everything will be fine like everyone else seems to think it will be :)

I doubt the glue would be toxic fior your corn , after all they are made for vivs

Yeah I thought about that too, but I wasn't sure if the glue was made for vivs or if it was some kind of household adhesive it was stuck on there with. I don't see how it would be a problem in reptiles because they don't rely on cutaneous respiration (I'd probably be worried if it was an amphibian that got stuck though). But then again, I'm no expert as I'm still 17 days away from getting my first snake!

I thought he was supposed to come this afternoon! What happened? *bummer*

Haha, well.....I dont know what's going on with the Pittsburgh Reptile Show, but it keeps getting moved. They cancelled the January show. The February one was supposed to be on the 6th, then it was moved to a different place and moved to the 13th, and then they moved it to the 20th....so MAYBE next weekend :spinner:
