When Juventus walk off the Allianz Stadium field Wednesday night, a quarter of the Serie A season will officially be a thing of the past. Two months gone just like that, which has still seen a whole lot of games packed into the schedule now that Juve’s back in Europe once again.
That meant just a few short hours after the 4-4 draw with Inter at the San Siro, Motta’s squad was back on the field preparing for Parma’s visit to Turin on Wednesday night. Three days after facing the reigning Serie A champions, they’re now about to face a squad in Parma that is back in Italy’s top flight for the first time since 2021. Their return to Serie A hasn’t exactly gone all that great so far, with Juve going from facing an Inter team that had won five straight games in all competitions to a Parma team that is currently in 17th place and with just one league win to their name so far this season.
It’s very much the kind of midweek Serie A fixture that, with the schedule being so busy and the opponent coming in winless in their last seven games (three losses and four draws), you would expect Motta to do some squad rotation and give some of his most important players at least part of the night off.
As we know, though, Juve’s depth has most definitely been tested in recent weeks due to injuries both long- and short-term as well as multiple suspensions. It’s all added up to a whole lot of forced rotation and players maybe getting more minutes than Motta would have liked them to have on their legs at this stage of the season.
There’s also this: Juventus, coming off an absolute roller coaster of a night in Milan, now have to fight off any sort of hangover from the Derby d’Italia when they take the field against a team that is very much looking at a possible relegation battle based on how their first nine games have gone to begin their return to Serie A. It’s a soft kind of landing after such an emotional game against Inter, but it’s also the kind of situation in which we’ve seen plenty of clubs drop points after such a tough fixture domestically or in Europe.

Yes, they are still the only team in Italy’s top flight yet to suffer a loss, but they’ve got more draws (5) than wins (4) so far this season and have four draws in their last six games. Juve need to get back to their winning ways on a consistent basis both in the big picture and also because they can’t afford to be dropping early-season points against a club like Parma.
