Striped King

My husband and I stopped by a pet shop tonight and we saw a beautiful striped king. It had to be 75g, definitely not a hatchling. It was black and either white or very pale yellow. We didn't handle it because they were closing, but I wish I had.

From what I've found online, striped is just a cali morph. Is that right?

It was priced at $69.99. Is that a decent price? It seemed a bit low for a pet shop.

I'd love to learn more about these. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Jenn,
Wait till the next show, I bet you can find one for about $30 or possibly cheaper.

Jenn - definately sounds like it was a California King. I had a striped Cali that I gave to my roommate Joe (CaptBogart) that I had purchased for $35 from a breeder here in Florida so you can definately find them cheaper than $70.

The high white striped cali-kings tend to be a bit more then the more common high blacks, but you can usually find some good deals directly from the breeder or at a show.

Here's Dolly, our female, that we picked up last year for $50 (half the price the breeder was originally asking for her.)

They are beautiful animals - I'd highly recommend one as they make great pets and great garbage disposals for uneaten mice.

And here is yet another variation...a Striped Chocolate Cali. This guy was a "freebie"...actually a rescue from poor care. He is close to 4 feet in length and weighs over 300grams at this point, though I haven't weighed him since last month. At that time, he was 286g, and he has shed since then. This is Igor, my male:

Oh, and yes...calis are the quintessential "garbage disposal" for uneaten or refused mice. My guy has no trouble with 2 large adults, if need be...
