Stuck eye cap - help!

I'm posting this here because it relates to my boyfriends red tailed boa, and figured someone on here could probably help. (I have corn snakes, but mostly just lurk in the shadows in this site)

We bought this little baby about 2 months ago, and when we got him, I quickly noticed he still had his eye cap on after his last. We soaked him a little, and tried to gently get it off, but no luck. Later, we had a friend who used to breed huge amounts of balls, corns, milksnakes etc take a look. They were able to get some pieces of the stuck eye cap off, but not all of it.

Here is where it gets tricky, after taking maybe 1/3 of the eye cap off, it dried out and appeared as though they had made no progress. As if nothing happened. Perhaps there is TWO layers of stuck eye caps?

We waited until his next shed, giving him lots of humidity. But he shed 2 days ago and another cap is stuck! We're looking up local reptile vets now. We know he's going to lose complete sight in the eye, but we just want to know what to do next. Try to remove the caps again or have a vet remove the eye. What would be the best course of action for us?

Thanks

He _probably_ won't lose his sight, I wouldn't think. My vet had me soak the snake in weak tea-colored Betadine water once or twice a day. I started out putting Vaseline Intensive Care yellow lotion on the eye as many times a day as possible, basically so it was always covered, but after a week changed that to an opthalmic ointment that stayed on better. The goal is to have the eye cap ALWAYS moistened. I misted him twice daily. When he shed, it came off.

I would have a snake vet evaluate it. I was _sure_ my vet was going to take a more aggressive approach, but he didn't, and the snake shed much sooner than he would have, because of the eye cap.
