i would inform you to ask a local carpenter. I don't think taking pictures. I know for sure its not ceder...i think. Just my .02

The first picture in not good at all to tell and the second picture is a little better. The side rail of the second it looks similar to pine, but the rest of the sides are hard to tell. You could seal the wood with a few coats
polyurethane or something of that natural. This should solve any toxic issues and help reduce and poop being absorbed into the "raw" wood.

Good Luck

looks like standard white pine to me, if you have a home depot or lowes nearby, it would be there also. as mentioned, don't used wolmanized (treated) wood as it is made for outdoor use and has very harmful chemicals it it. they make different types of treatments that you could put on wood that will help preserve it and not allow anything to penetrate it. the polyurethane metioned would probably be your best bet, but if you wanted you could stain it to a certain color of your choice and then poly it, that will not allow the stain chemicals hurt the snake either. just apply at least 2 coats if not more to make sure you get it all covered up.

I was always under the impression that pine was alright in a viv unless it's shavings...that a chunk of pine or a pine board would be alright since it's not all ground up and dusty. Think about it - corns are native to areas that have pine trees.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

i wouldn't see a problem, as long as it is sanded smooth and has a poly or something on it to keep it free from stuff soaking into the wood (but not pre-treated wood). i know i am new to this, but being in the construction industry, i don't know of anything that it would hurt. you could also spend more money if you like and buy aspen, ash, birch, oak, etc........but would still need to be treated. :)

i would not recommend putting any treated would in your viv. the best thing is to take would and bake it in the oven roughly 450deg. for about 30-40 min.
i always like to go to the lake on the beach and find some nice drift wood.i have been in the construction buss.for about 20 years, dealing with reptiles for about 25+.
