Substraite Questions

Hey everyone! I just got a new baby albino on 3/14/09, her name is Amun and she's awesome!

Anyway, I'm using Douglas Fur Bark as her substraite, is that the best way to go?

She seems to love borrowing in it, and it doesn't seem to hurt her, it just looks alittle rough to me.

According to my memory (I'm still a new corn owner myself) bark isn't always considered the most preferable of substrates. The best alternatives would be Aspen or paper towels. Aspen is cheap, looks good, and your snake can burrow in it well (so it feels more secure). Good look with the new snake!

I am not a big fan of wood substrates, especially pine. I have never had a good experience with it. I have seen many a mouse, develop serious respiratory problems. Here is a link that talks about pine shavings;

The Toxicity of Pine and Cedar Shavings! <~click the link!

I use paper towels, newspaper or carefresh. I will sometimes use a carefresh/aspen mixture during the winter months, but only when money gets a bit tight. Carefresh can be a bit expensive.

Good luck with this,

Wayne
