Substrate Question.

Hey guys,

My quest for Aspen bedding is failing. I can't seem to find it anywhere, rodent sections at all major pet stores but I won't stop looking.

In the meanwhile I'm using this recycled bedding " Back 2 Nature Pet Bedding and Litter" meant for all sorts of animals including reptiles.

100% environment friendly. What do you guys think?

Here is a pic of what the setup and the substrate looks like.

Is it fluffy?

Some leafy vines would be nice in there, too. Fake ones. It would give him a lot of cover to hide in.

You Can Get Aspen Online u can order it does not take long to get.... Go to www.ebay.com type in aspen bedding and there ya go let me know how ya get on....

I wouldn't say it's fluffy. Kinda like bark chips. Much softer and minus the sharp edges. It's really just paper rolled up into sticks.

I live in Asia so I don't think we would have online stores selling aspen bedding. But I'll look around for it.

And I'll get on the fake leaves asap. I have some lying around :]

Anymore advice?

I used that stuff for cat litter once. Was awful to clean up, hope it works better for the snake though.

you can use newspaper as a bedding. just stay away from cedar and pine.

somewhat off topic, but you might consider bending the vines you have in there into a more 3 demsnional shape. then drape the fake leaves over the top of the bendy vines. lots of snakes like to climb. I'm not sure what kind of snake you have (it doesnt look like a corn in the picture) but s/he'd probably like the climbing space. and it helps build muscle tone.

Thanks for the link, but I don't live in the states so I don't think beanfarm would be of any help ;]

But nevertheless my quest for aspen won't stop.

3D shape? I'm not sure if the picture doesn't do the vine any justice, but I shaped it in a roller coaster track way, nvm, I'll work on it :]

Am I missing anything else? :}

Nice looking snake. I just picked up a Tangerine Honduran today. Where are you keeping your temps for the Pueblan? Sorry that this strays from Corn Snake discussion.

I think I saw carefresh at the pet store yesterday. Or something similar. Cause it looks a lot like it.
I think it was the coloured one. But I'll go check again.

Thanks for the compliment, he is pretty jumpy though. But I'm leaving him alone for a few days.

I live in a tropical climate and humidity is high contantly. It gets pretty warm here too. I'm keeping him in the kitchen place where I keep the rest of my Ts. Temps are usually around in the range of 80F-90F with 80F as lowest on rainy days and at night. I have a fan blowing in the kitchen as well.

Looks good! I use aspen in my glass tanks because it makes my vivs look prettier and with the carefresh, I lose my babies faster because I noticed they burrow more in it and get down to the glass of the tank.

I like carefresh in my tubs with the bigger snakes because my tubs were getting more humid than the tanks (even with extra holes- I think it was something with the bigger water bowls and the plastic...) but the carefresh is so absorbant that it helped with my humidity a lot.

But if you can't find aspen, I think the Healthy Pet bedding sounds very similar to carefresh and you should be fine!

also- Kudos to you for doing so much research to ensure your pet's health!!
